The Magical World of Color Theory Hue, Sturation, RGB, CMYK, & More

Objective:

Today we are going to dive into the beginning of color theory. Going over what color is and how it can make you feel. We are learning Color theory to know how to properly pick a color scheme for your shoe design. You really have to think what message you are trying to say with not only the design but the color as well.

Materiels:

  • iPad
  • Khan Academy
  • Open Mind
  • Good Attitude

Lesson:

Let’s talk color. There are 2 color spaces. One is for print and one is for digital. CMYK is how real pages and printed pictures see color. RGB is what your computer and iPad use.

Before we begin, take some time to test how well you see color. Follow the link below to the test. (15 minutes)

Now you are going to follow the link below to learn how Pixar uses color. When you finish each practice you will take a screen shot of your progress. You will turn in all your screen shots to google class room once you have finished the whole lesson.

  1. You will take a few minutes to make THREE 6 swatch Complementary color schemes. Use the picture below to help you. You can also use the Adobe Capture app to help you.
  2. Now take some time to make THREE 6 swatch Split Complementary color schemes. Use the picture below to help you.
  3. Last. but not least make THREE 6 swatch Monochromatic color schemes. Use the picture below to help you. You can also use the Adobe Capture app to help you.

Turn in all 9 color scheme jpegs to google classroom.

Homework: Complete creating your color schemes.

Now let's put this new found knowledge to use.
