PCOM Library Vision and Mission

Vision

To be a leader in health sciences libraries by providing welcoming spaces and services that promote interprofessional excellence, discovery, diversity, collaboration, and innovation.

Mission

To place the needs of students, faculty, and staff at the forefront of everything we do. The library builds strategic partnerships within and outside of the PCOM community by offering services, instruction, and resources that support teaching and learning, research, outreach, and clinical activities. The library understands and meets the changing and diverse needs of users in virtual and physical environments.

Goals

Staff and Services

  • Hire and retain knowledgeable, progressive, and responsive staff that deliver essential services.
  • Provide career development and training at all levels to build skills and knowledge.
  • Offer innovative services that address the opportunities and challenges at PCOM and its affiliates.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to all users regarding library resources and services.
  • Provide sustainable and unique opportunities for learners to create new knowledge through engagement with our staff, services, and collections.

Research and Instruction

  • Actively partner with faculty and staff throughout the research process by offering organized and accessible services and resources.
  • Promote and support instructional and research activities and information needs in equitable and inclusive ways.
  • Improve instructional services by focusing on effective pedagogical practices and ongoing assessment.
  • Provide educational programs that build life-long knowledge management and evidence-based practice skills
  • Engage with faculty regarding instruction, curricular support, and course design.

Collaboration and Engagement

  • Create a vital and effective Library by fostering respect, trust, and teamwork.
  • Foster collaboration, open communication, transparent decision-making, and a culture of organizational learning and leadership with all PCOM departments.
  • Improve communication with key audiences and stakeholders to increase awareness and understanding of the Library’s role.
  • Develop and sustain strategic collaborations which positively impact PCOM, the Library, and our communities.
  • Strengthen relationships to expand opportunities for the timely inclusion of relevant Library initiatives.

Access

  • Increase awareness and recognition of the Library’s virtual presence.
  • Develop our virtual spaces to facilitate use and discovery of resources and services by a wide range of users.
  • Create a cohesive user experience for students, faculty, and staff wherever they need access.
  • Enable coordinated and effective acquisition, discovery, usage, and preservation of materials across a breadth of subjects and formats.
  • Nurture an environment of ongoing evaluation, transparent decision-making, and coordinated planning to adapt to changes in a virtual environment.

Space

  • Create a library space that is welcoming to all and focused on academic uses and support.
  • Provide flexible spaces that promote interprofessional collaboration and shared expertise, learning, and discovery.
  • Develop spaces that encourage and support the exploration of new technologies and innovations.
  • Evaluate and improve the experience of all users based on their diverse preferences and needs.
  • Assess and enhance the balance between user spaces, office spaces, and collection spaces.
