"One of the most painful days of my cycling career" Kasia Niewiadoma - Giro Rosa 2016 Stage 6

After posting a photo on Instagram from Stage 6 of the Giro Rosa, Kasia Niewiadoma piped up in the comments describing it as "One of the most painful days of my cycling career".

On reading the comment I wasn't surprised: It was exhausting just watching her efforts! Here's how Kasia's 'painful day' played out.

Boels Dolmans set a ferocious pace over the early climbs.

But Kasia still managed to escape solo...

... with her lead growing quickly.

As she begins the Passo Caprauna climb her lead was almost 90 seconds.
Kasia's lead was steady, at around a minute until Mara Abbott and Evelyn Stevens jumped clear in pursuit of Niewiadoma. With 500 metres to the GPM, Niewiadoma was caught and passed by Abbott and Stevens.
Descending like a skeleton bobsleigh rider in pursuit of Stevens and Abbott.
Making the catch.
Leading the way on the descent to Ceriale.
Shake it off! Cramping from the earlier efforts as the road levels out.
The race comes back together as they approach Alassio and the final climb.
Hairpin after hairpin on the road to Madonna della Guardia.
Fighting to stay in touch. The attacks begin again but Niewiadoma's day is done. Her teammate, van der Breggen takes the race to Boels and Abbott.
Seventh on the stage didn't really do the performance justice but there's plenty to be proud of from an impressive day of racing.

As you’ve made it this far you’ll definitely enjoy our women’s cycling photo book, but we need your help to make it happen. You can find out more and support the book on Kickstarter. We have a bunch of cool rewards including a copy of the book with your name in, a book and a wall calendar or even a photo shoot with us. But don’t wait too long, if we don’t hit the target then the book won’t happen.
