Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum By Kandan Sellers

Structure: The Smooth ER doesn't have any ribosomes attached to it, and so it has a smooth appearance

Function: The Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum synthesizes lipids, carbohydrate metabolism, calcium ion storage, steroid metabolism, and drug detoxification.

Special Information: The Smooth ER and Rough ER for an interconnected network of membranous cisternae, tubules and vesicles.

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Is found in Eukaryotic cells, and is present in plant and animal cells.

Location in Cell: The membrane of the ER is continuous with the outer layer of the Nuclear Envelope.
