The end of term is rapidly approaching and while this has been an incredibly difficult year we have much to celebrate.

The children have worked so hard and have made great progress in their reading and maths fluency this term. I would like to thank you for your support with using the online reading logs and the DRET 10 lists to improve the regularity and quality of children's reading.

DRET staff, students and their families are invited to join Nevill Holt Opera for the dress rehearsal of La traviata on the 2 August, 12pm

About this event

DRET staff, students and their families are invited to join us at Nevill Holt Opera for the dress rehearsals for La traviata and Don Giovanni. The dress rehearsals are free of charge, and spaces will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Please note that NHO's opera festival this year will take place outside and seats are to be allocated in the uncovered area, meaning that warm clothes and waterproofs will be needed in the unlikely event that it will be raining. You can read more about this year's festival here.

We also have a special offer just for DRET students, staff and families. We are able to get FREE tickets to the Dress rehearsals, which take place at 12 noon (finishing at around 3 pm) on Monday 2nd and Monday 18th August. You can take a picnic with you and enjoy the grounds before the show and during the lunch interval - a perfect day out!

Tickets will not be sent out; rather, your names will be recorded on a list, and you simply give your name on arrival.

Tickets will be offered on a first come first served basis. Once your application has been received, NHO will be in contact with you.

The ticket links are as follows:

La traviata (2nd August, 12pm)

The Curriculum

We are very excited to return to a full curriculum in September. We are very proud of our broad and challenging curriculum.

We are very excited to add Latin to our offering for Key Stage 2. The course we have chosen is Maximum Classics and we think the course is interesting, fun and engaging.

  • 200 words in 4 years
  • Designed to improve English vocabulary
  • Specifically designed to be inclusive

Support for those children who have learning gaps from lockdown will of course continue.

Swimming

Mrs Mawby and I won't mind admitting that arranging swimming has been very difficult, with rising costs for both the pool, teachers, administration fees and transport.

We can finally confirm that Year 5 and 6 will be able to swim for Term 1A and 1B. This will be a Wednesday afternoon, leaving straight after eating lunch. The first session will be on the 15th September.

This is at a cost to the school of about £2000. We have tried really hard not to pass this increased cost on to our parents. Contributions will be capped at £3.00 per session, per child.

Please remember that pupils cannot enter the pool with earrings. These need to be removed by the pupil or before they come to school that day. Plasters are not an acceptable alternative.

Thank you so much for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at sports day!
