A Huge Thank You

Thanks to everyone who turned out for Saturday's garden/trail work day. Many hands made for light work, and we were able to clear the trail and add mulch, paving stones, and a wattle fence to the garden. We would like to add a special thank you to Powell Stone and Gravel for donating mulch and paving stones, Brian Spiker Masonry for donating stones for the fountain, and the JRB PTA for their generous financial support.

Trike-A-Thon

The Preschool sponsored their annual St. Jude’s Trike-A-Thon again last week. This year we raised $1895, all of which was sent to St. Jude’s children’s hospital. Since opening in 1962, St. Jude’s has developed protocols that have brought survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent to better than 80 percent overall. It treats children without regard to race, religion, creed, or ability to pay. Thank you to all the children who rode their bikes around the playground, and the parents that cheered them on!

Attention Parents Of Current 2nd Graders (Next Year's 3rd Grade)
Also From The Nurse's Office

The Health office is in need of new packages of underwear for both boys (sizes 4/5, 6/8, 10/12 and 12/14) and girls (sizes 4, 6 and 8). Any donations would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!

Calendar Correction

The next early release day will be May 31st and not June 7th, as previously published. The Friday before Graduation Sunday - June 2nd is a district-wide traditional half day for building based activities and it was recorded in error. Attached is the corrected calendar.

Substitutes Wanted

As a district we are looking for more substitutes. If you have a desire to come in and work with students, please click here to find the packet needed to apply. We would love to have you join us at JRB!

Recital Night: Forms are due into Mrs. Lordan by 5/24 at the latest. Please have your lesson instructor approve and sign the form before submitting. If you do not have an instructor, see Mrs. Lordan or Mr. Uminski immediately, to make arrangements with them to approve and sign off on your form.

K & 1st graders are learning the story of "Peter and the Wolf" and are able to identify the instruments associated with each character. We have been using Mrs. Lordan's new silicone story spots on the whiteboard to match the characters with the instruments, as well as the order of events in the story.

2nd graders are doing an awesome job at playing their recorders! Most students have earned the first 4 "belts" and some have already earned the 5th! These belts are color-coded elastic bands placed on the bottom of the recorders that are used with the Recorder Karate curriculum. Students practice together and then play in small groups to "test" for their belt.

3rd, 4th & 5th graders have been composing their own 4 measure songs on keyboards. They are learning how to accurately write the musical notes on the staff and play them accordingly for their classes. We have been hearing some very creative songs from our students!

RISE Awards Ceremony

The Ashburnham-Westminster Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) hosted the second annual Remarkable Inspiration in Special Education (RISE) Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at J.R. Briggs Elementary School. We were very lucky to have multiple staff members receive these honors this year. Amy Delaney, Stephanie Shaw, and Nate Galeota were each honorees for the ceremony. Finally, our own Bill Foss received one of three Pioneer Awards for his work with students. The entire event was a great celebration of the tremendous contributions to our school and community from many district employees.
