"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor(1982) Artistic response to roll of thunder, hear my cry

Quotation Relation from Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by: Mildred Taylor

“It was Granger land before it was Logan”(Taylor 169).

Explanation Of Connection

The song “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor relates to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor because the Logans did not back down from the challenges they faced such as prejudice and unfair treatment. A line from the song “Eye of the Tiger” says, “rising up to the challenge of our rival.” One example is the boycott the Logans started against the Wallace store so they would lose business. This was the Logans’ revenge for the Wallaces burning the Berrys. When the Logans did not stop the boycott, Mr. Granger made their lives hard by making them pay their mortgage before the cotton picking was done. Mr. Granger wanted his land back. He told Papa, "It was Granger land before it was Logan land" (169). The Logans were able to pay off their mortgage by getting money from Uncle Hammer. This shows they found a solution and did not give up.
