Welcome to a new series of Online Sunday School at Our Savior Hawaii! Over the next five weeks, we'll be growing in faith, having fun, and discovering how God's love changes the world as we explore the Parable of the Sower! A parable is a story with a lesson, and Jesus has a lot to teach us with this parable.
PLANTING SEEDS Today, we'll dig-in to this question: Why does God plant seeds? As we dig-in, we'll discover how God sows the seed of faith in each of our hearts.
- How do you take care of all God created? What else could you do?
- What kinds of seeds do you like to eat?
- If you were to own a working farm, what seeds would you grow and why?
- How many types of seeds can you name as a family?
Read Mark 4:1-9 The Parable of the Sower
Again he began to teach by the sea, and a very large crowd gathered around him. So he got into a boat on the sea and sat down, while the whole crowd was by the sea on the shore. 2 He taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them, 3 “Listen! Consider the sower who went out to sow. 4 As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly, since the soil wasn’t deep. 6 When the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it didn’t produce fruit. 8 Still other seed fell on good ground and it grew up, producing fruit that increased thirty, sixty, and a hundred times.” 9 Then he said, “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen.”
A sower (farmer) planted seeds and lots of good things (and some not so good things) happened. God sent Jesus to this earth many years ago. You could say God was planting a Seed of Love in the world. Jesus grew and taught and showed others how to live in God’s way. His ultimate act of love was dying and rising for us. God continues to plant seeds of love everywhere—in you, in me, and all over the world. God plants the seed of faith in our hearts, so we can know Him and His love more and more each day. That little seed blooms with lots of love to share.
