Welcome Back to WCPS September 2019

Welcome back to WCPS for a brand new year! I hope you have all had a great holiday and are ready to continue your learning adventure into the 2019/2020 year. For some of you this will be the start of your WCPS learning journey and I am excited to join you on an amazing adventure! Last year we saw some difficulties but we are ready for the possible challenges and definite celebrations that we will face this year! WCPS is an amazing school and community and I can’t wait to work with you all. Please do come in and speak to me.

What is your favourite thing to do at school?

The classes will be exploring books by Nick Sharratt. Don’t forget to share the books you read on our blog.

In Year 1 the children will start their journey as historians and explore how toys have changed overtime. They will be using the story “Traction Man” to start their story telling adventure.

You will be invited to a SATs workshop early on in the term to share information with you. Children will be attending after school booster groups. More information will be sent out soon.

Our whole focus will be to improve reading. Over the coming year we will be inviting you to workshops to share how we teach phonics and reading through school. Homework over the first half term will be to read at least 5 times a week. Sharing books is so important. Please come and borrow books from our sharing library in reception. Books for adults and children will be stored for you to come and take and replace!

Don’t forget to get out and keep active, join in the Barnsley book hunt and blog about your finds on our website.

Please make sure all children have indoor shoes to wear around school.

#AttendanceMatters

Our whole school attendance target is 96%, last year our attendance was only 94.7% and we need to improve this year. There are 190 school days in a year, that’s 190 amazing opportunities the children have to further their learning. Please work with us to improve attendance and give our children the best start in education possible. For support with this please do drop in and speak to us.
