I trust you all had a wonderful holiday. It was a real joy to see the smiling faces flooding back in the gate for the start of term. A very warm welcome to all the new families who have joined our school learning community. I know that you will really enjoy all aspects of school life. Our school continues to grow fast and we now have 625 students.
We are loving life at level one and we are excited to offer our students the following amazing opportunities this term.
- The Life Education truck is onsite from 27th October as part of our school wide health education programme
- Y0-Y4 student will participate in a series of cricket sessions run by Auckland Cricket
- Y6 rugby fun day run by the Auckland Rugby union
- Y3 will take part in a six week Community swim programme
- Y6 Rafting trip to Wero White Water Park
- Y0/Y1/Y2 Tabloid Sports Morning
- Y3/Y4/Y5/Y6 Athletics day
We can't wait to celebrate student achievement with you all during this term's parent teacher interviews and we look forward to welcoming the community to our end of year prize giving celebration on Thursday December 10th.
On Thursday 22nd October Photo Life will be onsite to take class photos. Unfortunately this year they are unable to offer individual photos due to scheduling issues caused by lockdown.
Please make sure that your child is wearing their correct school uniform including school shoes.
Also, if you have not returned your photolife envelope please make sure that you send it with your child with the correct money in the envelope.
Labour Weekend (Holiday)
Just a reminder school is closed on Monday 26th October for Labour Day. Enjoy the long weekend!
Students for 2021/New Parents Meeting
We are starting to consider the make-up of our classes for 2021. To help us with this job, it is useful to be informed of any new students who intend coming to Chapel Downs and of any families who are leaving. If you have neighbours, family or friends who are planning to come here please encourage them to pre-enrol. Our new parents morning will be held on Thursday 29th October and Thursday 19th November. Please ring the office on (09) 274 8002 if you would like to attend.
Term 4 - Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews
It is well established that schools with a close home and school partnership are more successful in meeting goals and targets for learning and teaching. The team is looking forward to reporting to you on students’ progress against their learning goals. Parent / Student / Teacher interviews will be held in week seven – Thursday 26th November from 2pm
Athletics Day / Tabloid Sports
This year our Y0, Y1 and Y2 students will participate in the Tabloid Sports day on Friday 30th October from 9am. Parents and whanau are welcome to come along and watch the tabloids.
Our Y3/Y4/Y5/Y6 student will compete at our athletics day on Wednesday 4th November
• Y5/Y6 Athletics 9.30am - 11.30am
• Y3/Y4 Athletics 12.30pm - 3.00pm
All students will compete in six different events – sprints, 400m run, 800m run, high jump, long jump and softball throw. Parents and whanau are welcome to come along and watch the athletics.
Year 3 Swimming
This term our Year Three children are participating in a series of six swimming lessons through the Community Swim programme funded by the John Walker Find Your Field of Dreams Foundation. The lessons will begin on on Tuesday 27 October and run every Tuesday until the 1st of December.
Year 6 Rafting Trip
On Monday the 16th November our Year 6 children will have a session at the WERO Whitewater Park . This is to familiarise children with moving water and how to be river safe. The children will get to experience river crossing in a fast flowing river and go whitewater rafting on the Grade 2 Tamariki River, both activities are with a guide. A huge thanks to John Walker Field of Dreams, Community Swim and Vector Whitewater Park for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students.
Vector EPro8 Challenge
A group of Year 5/6 children have been working on the Vector EPro8 Challenge. Congratulation to our Chapel Downs team -Mansa, Eliza, Zane, Aroha, Cassie, Kim, Khanye and Sivkheng
EPro8 Challenge is an engineering and problem solving competition. Every year over 10,000 students from 800 schools from throughout New Zealand take part.
Teams compete to:
- build large sized structures
- solve practical problems
- engineer using pulleys, motors, gears, wheels and axles
- invent simple machines
- undertake fun experiments
- construct electronic circuits
- solve practical maths problems
