Tuesday, February 11th, is also our 100th day of school and we are on a mission! Our goal is to complete 100 acts of kindness by the end of our 100th day of school! We'll shout out all of our kind kids in our next newsletter. Please click here to share the kind things your children do at home and we'll count them towards our challenge goal!

News from PTO

Here's a sneak peek of our 2019-2020 yearbook! Make sure to order yours ASAP (we sold out last year)! To purchase your yearbook go to https://www.balfour.com.

Parents, do you have any photos that you'd like included in the yearbook? We are still in need of photos for our Adventure Book. You can send images to the yearbook staff from your smartphone by searching "Balfour Image Share" in your app store and sharing pictures with our school's yearbook project #007215. Also, 5th grade parents, please remember to purchase your student dedications. The deadline is quickly approaching!

Visit the Timbers Elementary PTO Facebook page for more information.

After School Tutorials

The second round of after school tutorials begins on Tuesday, February 11th. If your scholar received a tutorials letter, please return it by Monday, February 10th.

Change to Front Driveway Fire Lanes

The County Fire Marshal visited Timbers for its annual inspection on January 24th. The fire lanes in our front driveway were found to be inadequate and we were directed to add a fire lane/no parking stripe, which was completed during last week's break. As a result, parking is no longer permitted anywhere in the front of the building except for in parking spaces and along the street. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for working with us to ensure our scholars' safety.

Friendship Parties

Classes will have Friendship Parties on Friday, February 14th! If you would like to attend, please RSVP here.

Round-Table Discussions

We are looking forward to talking to you at our upcoming round-table discussions! Instead of sending a new survey, our discussion topics are based on parent responses to last year's survey. During these discussions, parents will collaborate with staff members to share information and generate ideas that support scholar success. Our discussion topics are: 1) Personalized Learning Experiences, 2) Engaging Scholars in Learning, and 3) Encouraging Creative Thinking and Risk Taking in the Classroom. If you are interested in participating in a round-table discussion on these topics, please click here. All round-table discussions will be held from 4:00pm - 5:00pm on the following dates:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Monday, March 23, 2020

2nd & 3rd Grade: Tuesday, March 24, 2020

4th & 5th Grade: Wednesday, March 25, 2020

5th Grade Course Selection Cards

5th grade course selection cards are due on Tuesday, February 11th.

Credit by Exam

Each summer Humble ISD provides testing sessions for students who wish to attempt credit by exam for acceleration to skip a grade and/or a course. To skip a grade, elementary students must take 4 tests and middle school students must take 8 tests – Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science for the grade they wish to skip. A score of 80% is required on all tests for the student to be eligible to skip the grade. Students are allowed 3 hours for each test although they rarely use that much time. Parents should be available on testing days so they can be reached if students finish early.

Below are the dates and deadlines for the Spring and Summer testing windows. Students can register for Summer testing beginning March 2nd. Keep in mind if your child takes the test in the spring/summer, the test will cover the entire year of curriculum for the next grade level (i.e., If your 2nd grader takes the test in the spring or summer the test will cover all of the 3rd grade curriculum.).

Testing Dates/Deadline

March 16-20/February 25

June 8-11/May 8

July 6-9/May 8

Please contact Ms. Collins at mcollin@humbleisd.net or 281-641-2007 for information on how to register.

Backpack Buddies

Timbers participates in the Houston Food Banks's Backpack Buddy Program. The program allows students who qualify for free/reduced lunch to qualify for additional student meals/snacks be sent home for the weekend. If you would like to enroll in the Backpack program, please notify Ms. Collins at 281-641-2007 or Marylana.Collins@humbleisd.net.

Guidance/Great 8 Skills

Timbers follows Humble ISD's adoption of the Great 8 character education skills. Timbers students are focusing on goal-directed behavior for the third nine weeks.

Attendance Celebration!

Congratulations to THIRD GRADE for meeting our campus attendance goal of 97% the week of 1/27/20!

Attendance Reminders

Our campus attendance rate was 96.09% for the first semester (so close to our 97% goal) and is 94.98% so far this semester.

When your child(ren) are absent from school, you must call the absence hotline at (281)641-2019 for each day absent, and send a note to school the day they return. If the school does not receive a phone call or note from a guardian, the absence is considered unexcused.

Student Birthdays

Parents may purchase a frozen birthday treat for their child’s class during their lunch time. Frozen treats may be purchased from the cafeteria for 75 cents each to be distributed after the children finish their lunch. Please notify the cafeteria at (281) 641-2008 one week prior to the event in order to have enough treats on hand for all interested. If parents wish to bring cupcakes to school, they may do so. However, please ensure that the treats are store bought as well as notify the teacher two days in advance so that the teacher has ample time to contact the parents of those with allergies arranging for an alternate treat. Parents may drop off the treats at the front office so that birthdays may be celebrated the final 20 minutes of the school day. As a reminder of district policy, students are not permitted to pass out party invitations at school unless every student in the class receives one.
