Content Focus

The purpose of this task is to;

  • Provide you the student with an opportunity to present a folio of work that demonstrates a developed understanding of conventions, styles and genres.
  • Curate a professional portfolio of images representative of current and past work.
  • Extend your understanding of your own photographic practice.
  • Explore presentation conventions.

HSC Photographic Book Submission

  • Curate a series of images illustrative of the best of your HSC photographic practice.
  • Create an account at Blurb Books (you will need this to download the BookWright software if required and upload your book for printing)

File preparation

  • Colour correct and crop your images (where necessary) in Lightroom or Photoshop.
  • Export or save @ 300dpi + Adobe RGB 1998 Colour profile

Opening BookWright for the first time

The landing page gives you a range of options to work with. Choose 'CREATE' to start a new project
Chose a book format and then click 'Next'
A range of paper options will be displayed, click Next
Type in your book title and then click 'cteate new book'
The BookWright workspace will open
In the upper left hand corner click on the 'Create your cover' icon, A range of templates will be displayed, choose the one that best suites your project.

If the resolution of your imported file is too low for printing an icon will be displayed at the top right of the image. You then have the option of deleting the image and fixing the file resolution in Photoshop or clicking the fix button and allowing BookWright's software to make the adjustment for printing.

If you choose a template that does not have a text container you can draw a text container by selecting 'draw text container' from the 'Add/Insert' option on the command bar or clicking on the DrawText icon.

Choose 'Pages' from the menu top left, select a page template and begin importing your images.

When you are satisfied with the layout and your book is completed,

  • Preview your book,
  • Fix and identified issues or errors
  • Log in, upload and order your copy from the Blurb Bookstore
  • From 'categories' choose something appropriate and searchable such as Art + Photography, Fine Art Photography or Portfolio.
  • Make a digital copy of your book available.
  • Allow about 10 days for printing and delivery.
  • Submit your book for assessment by the due date


  • Create and submit a business card / logo
  • Create and submit a promotional poster
  • Create and submit (via url or link) an online gallery

Details and possible solutions for the above will be discussed in the learning space during the allotted session times.
