Biographical Sketch- Johann Gutenberg was born either 1398 or 1399 and died on February 3rd 1468. He was born, lived, and died in Mainz, Germany. Johann Gutenberg invented a method of printing from movable type that was used without change until the 20th century.

Importance to Society- Johann Gutenberg was a blacksmith known for inventing the Mechanical Movable Type Printing Press. The Printing Press was considered the most important invention in the modern era because it profoundly impacted the transmission of knowledge.
