What Caused The War?

  • Britain attempted to restrict United States Trade
  • France was in war with Britain and also attempted to block U.S. trade routes
  • The United States were simply middlemen and were pulled into this war.
  • Britain and France both wanted supplies to stop reaching the enemy

What Happened To The United States During The War?

  • The British stole neutral seamen and forced them to join their army
  • About 15,000 American Soldiers died during the war
  • The Americans did win the final Battle of New Orleans under the leadership of Andrew Jackson

Result Of The War

  • Treaty of Ghent was signed
  • The result was small to the Americans but had a major impact on the Native Americans and Canadians
  • The War had a lasting positive morale following Andrew Jackson's win at New Orleans
