What Are You Thankful For?
I started out in October on a mission to complete a set of “30 days of Thanksgiving” posts on my mayoral Facebook page. I was going to highlight our city employees every day because I am thankful for each and every one of them. As it happens, the project got away from me, and I was unable to complete it.
So, I have decided to dedicate this edition of Moments With the Mayor to our city staff. I am taking this time to express my gratitude for all of the city staff who work diligently to provide our citizens with great public service.
The streets and sanitation department is among the smallest of departments that we have. Yet, this group of employees work hard every day and have a thankless job.
The utility department encompasses gas, water, & sewer services. They have worked tirelessly on infrastructure projects, locate requests, gas inspections, new service requests, and utility maintenance to ensure that your utility services continue to function as you expect.
The fire and police department serve as our public safety personnel. They have worked around-the-clock throughout the pandemic to ensure that our citizens remain protected and safe.
The parks and recreation department have spent most of the year maintaining the parks and preparing the Sand Beach Lake trails for opening. They are doing almost all of this work themselves with an occasional assist from the streets and utility departments.
The administrative staff have been working constantly to ensure that all city services obligations are met or exceeded. They have kept the offices manned and projects on track. They’ve been about the business of city business throughout this entire pandemic.
We have a great team here working for you every day. They are often overlooked until something goes wrong, but they have worked tremendously hard in the face of adversity this year to ensure that there was no disruption of city services.
Throughout this time, not one city employee has complained. We are blessed with a team whose one desire is to ensure that their community is taken care of. If you see one of our city employees, please thank them for their service.
I am sincerely thankful for our dedicated team of professionals. What are you thankful for?
