How to... By Jordin baker, Photos editor

How to hold a professional photo shoot at home

First, find a few good places to take your photos.

Outside: a rustic fence, a brick wall, the side of a house or somewhere in nature, like an open field

Inside: a plain wall or a plain sheet tied up on a wall

Second, get an object or a model. If you are using a model, you might want to do their hair and makeup. You would also want different outfits and shoes to vary up the shoot.

Third, come up with different poses and positions. When taking the photos, you might want to choose different heights and angles to get different perspectives. The internet is a great way to find different poses.

Tip: Always put the light source behind the camera for the best lighting in the pictures

Fourth, take the photos. If you are using an iPhone, portrait mode would be the best setting. If you are using a camera, portrait mode is also suggested but sometimes not the best choice. More experienced photographers would be better off choosing the manual setting to have greater control over their photos.

Props are used to better support and add meaning to the subject. With portrait photos props should be used to enhance the subject and demonstrate their personality.

Taking a great photo doesn't mean you need a professional camera. A solid phone camera will also work.

1. Canon camera (portrait mode) 2. iPhone 11 (portrait mode) 3. iPhone 7

Finish your entire photo shoot before going through any of the photos. It's better to take many photos instead of a few photos because some aren't going to turn out. With more photos, the chances increase that you'll find some winning shots.

Editing photos...

When editing photos, no matter what editing software you use, you're going to want to mess with "light" and "levels." If the picture is too dark, bring up the light. If it's too bright, bring down the light. Play around with the levels bar to see different colors pop.

Now that you know how to make a professional photo shoot, get started!
