There have been some happy times in Fresno! Please join me in congratulating Keith on getting married to his lovely Nicole! Also, my little brother, Finley, was born. Keith went above and beyond for the team this month by repairing our window display, which we were told was unsalvageable. His can-do outlook and handy skills saved our store a couple grand, and restored our showroom to a presentation-ready state, in only a few hours. Daniel, Keith, and David worked diligently together to get the warehouse in tip-top shape—I’ve never seen a warehouse so clean and organized! It’s been awesome to see all the guys include and mentor our newest team member, David. The guys work very well as a unit, whether all in a group or split into smaller teams. I’m proud of our team! We always have room for improvement, but we’re working to create positivity each day, and grow together. A quote that’s been on my mind lately for the Fresno team and the whole of CDI: “Teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability.” ~Patrick Lencioni

Thank you,

Most everyone already knows about the upcoming new granite fabrication shop that we are launching. Just to keep everyone up to speed on our progress, we have signed the lease on the building and we will get full time access to it on May 8th. We are waiting for the current tenants to move out. We have ordered the 2 Baca robot waterjet saws, 3 Park CNC machines, a Marmo Meccanica line polishing machine and a Baca miter saw. We expect delivery of the machines between the last week of June and the first couple weeks of July. Rodrigo Peralta and Russell Rule (New CAD Specialist in the Fab Shop) are working diligently on shop layouts so that we can get with the Architect and submit for permits ASAP!

The Woodside “Inspiration Gallery” will have it’s first Homebuyer appointments on Monday May 1st! Thank you to everyone who has worked on this project. A special thank you to Deidre Seefeldt as she has put countless hours into designing, coordinating and putting the finishing touches on yet another GORGEOUS Design Center to create an unparalleled Homebuyer experience in the Sacramento market. The address is 1918 Del Paso Rd. We will have a Grand Opening Celebration sometime in May so keep your eyes open for that announcement!

I would like to also send out a special recognition thank you to our Interns this past semester. Danielle McDonald in Order Processing, Trevor Wright in Sales and Melicah Domalaon in the Design Center have been in the trenches learning about our business. These young professionals are the first group of Interns that we have had at CDI and I hope they have learned a few things about our business. I hope to learn from them how we can better improve this new program for our organization moving forward. By the end of 2017, we will have almost doubled in sales from just 2-years ago! Our ability to continue to grow is dependent on being able to attract new, talented, hard-working and dedicated employees to add to our various locations. A special thanks to Melicah and Trevor for their hard work on the builder option specifications that are being loaded into ILG Studio! It was not an easy assignment!

Design Center Team

Well it’s official, the Woodside Inspiration Gallery (AKA the WIG) is officially opened to buyers as of Monday, May 1st. It’s been a LOOOONG road, but we are so excited for all the positive response we have received thus far. Opening this is truly a big milestone for CDI, and we should all be SO proud of this accomplishment. I would like to thank everyone that helped make this possible, and pulled through at the end to help get this place opened!

We have officially got the ILG Studio up and running at our first Taylor Morrison community with the rest of the communities shortly behind, and our next set of builders behind that. It’s been received very well with both the Sales and Buyer side, and we are looking forward to the continued progress. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Renee for taking this task by the horns and really helping us push through all our challenges to get this up and “officially” running. Another BIG shout out to Jenny, Melicah, and Trevor (Melicah and Trevor are 2 of our Sac State interns for those of you who have not had the pleasure of meeting them) for all your continued hard work on this project!

The Design Centers across the board have picked up SUBSTANTIALLY and we still believe the peak has not hit us yet-so buckle up! The entire design team have all done an amazing job with all the cross training which is helping with coverage at the different design centers, and even more doing it with a smile on their face! With our continued growth we have added another Designer to our team, Simone Bartle was hired to be our 3rd FULL TIME Taymo Designer. She will work out of Sacramento mainly, but will also eventually help in the Taymo Bay DC as they too are in need of additional support. This has been an amazing start of the year, we are almost half way there! Remember…. "Individual commitment to a group effort--that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." --Vince Lombardi

Also, I would like to share a story

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot, and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup. Turning to her he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?”

“Potatoes, eggs, and coffee,” she hastily replied.

“Look closer,” he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity– the boiling water.

However, each one reacted differently.

The potato went in strong, hard, and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

“Which are you,” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean? “

Moral: In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us.

Which one are you?
