Piner Elementary-A KCSD School of Distinction!

The Piner Family Resource Center Food Drive, benefiting Action Ministries, started today! Please send in your canned goods to help feed hungry families in our area. The class that collects the most canned items will win a pajama day! These are the items we are collecting each day:

Monday 4/23/18: Canned fruit

Tuesday 4/24/18: Canned vegetables

Wednesday 4/25/18: Canned soup

Thursday 4/26/18: Peanut butter and jelly

Friday 4/27/18: Boxed pasta (spaghetti, mac and cheese)

SBDM Parent Representatives Wanted!

Parents, have you been looking for a way to get more involved with your child’s school? Consider running for the School Based Decision Making Council! The purpose of our SBDM Council is to make decisions that will help our students continue to improve academic achievement. Each year we elect two parent representatives to our SBDM Council. Commitments include an initial six hour training and a one hour monthly meeting. The election will be held at the Work Ethic Awards on May 24. Questions? Call 356-2155.

Placement Requests for Next Year

If you would like to make a placement request for your student for the 2018-19 school year, please send a note to the office requesting a Student Placement Request Form, or click the link here to download the form: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S60_mev_PWWb_buUe2txXq3NvNQXxDYpth251Gqi_yM/edit?usp=sharing . On the form, you will be asked to provide an educational reason for your request. Student Placement Forms must be turned in by May 11 and must be fully completed in order to be considered. Teacher assignments for next year have not yet been made, and will not be available prior to the request deadline. Please know that the teachers work very hard collaborating together to place each student in a class in which they will be most successful. Homeroom assignments will be announced by August 6, 2018.

It's KCSD Night at the Florence Freedom!

Support Piner Elementary by attending the Florence Freedom game on Friday, May 18. Tickets are just $10 (which includes all fees), and $4 from every ticket sold will come back to our school! In addition, the Team Kenton Foundation will receive a portion of the profits. Here's how to purchase your tickets:

Coming Soon: State Testing

In just four weeks our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take the KPREP state test. We will test May 16-18, May 21 and May 23 in the areas of reading (all), math(all), science (4th), on-demand writing (5th) and social studies (5th). Please be sure that all students in testing grades are present on time each day of our testing window. This is our chance to showcase how well our students have mastered the Kentucky Academic Standards, and is our “report card” to the state. We are excited to show our students’ growth and achievement! Our goal is to be a 5 STAR SCHOOL on Kentucky’s new accountability measure!

Thank you for your support of our Boosterthon Fun Run! We were able to earn enough money to support our Summer Learning Programs, and keep them open and free for all students! In addition to our Me and My School program for incoming Kindergarten students, we are making plans for our free Summer Learning Program for students entering grades 1-5. This summer’s theme is “The Summer of STEAM”, and the focus will be on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math in addition to reading. As we did last year, we will collaborate with the 21st CCLC program, with the SLP running Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Each student in the program will receive a free lunch daily. The 21st CCLC will operate from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and all day on Fridays. (Please note: there is a small registration fee for the 21st CCLC program.) The dates this year will be June 11-July 6. Registration forms will be available at our Summer Program Kick Off on April 26, and will be sent home with all students April 27. Please consider signing your child up for these programs, and keep them learning over the summer! Registration forms are due by Friday, May 25, 2018.
