WOMEN'S TENNIS RECEIVES NCAA BID ... For the 16th time in the program's history, the women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Division II postseason tournament. The Moccasins, ranked 25th in the ITA National Poll with a 15-7 record, with be the South Region's number five seed and will face fourth-seeded Valdosta State (16-6) in the first round at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1 with the winner taking on top-seeded Barry (25-0) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2 (read more).

FSC FINISHES THIRD AT SSC TOURNAMENT ... After placing third in the Sunshine State regular season, the Moccasins were the number three seed in the SSC Tournament this past weekend at the IMG Academy in Bradenton. The Mocs opened with a 5-1 over Saint Leo and then fell, 5-0 to Lynn. FSC closed out the tournament with a 5-3 victory over Rollins. (Tournament Recaps: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3)

FSC TO HOST SSC WOMEN'S LACROSSE TOURNAMENT ... As champions of the Sunshine State Conference, the Moccasins (17-2) will once again be the host for the SSC postseason tournament on April 28 and 30 at Lakeland's Bryant Stadium. Top-seeded Florida Southern will face No. 4 seed Tampa (6-10) at 3 p.m. on Friday with #2 Florida Tech (12-2) taking on #3 Rollins (12-4) at 6 p.m. The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m. (SSC Championship Website).

MOCS GO OUT IN STYLE ... Florida Southern, ranked fourth in the latest poll, capped the regular season with a 15-12 over No. 7 Limestone on Friday in Gaffney, SC. The Moccasins overcame a three-goal deficit in the first half by outscoring the Saints, 8-4, in the final period. Emily Santoli netted four goals for the Moccasins while Shannon Gilfedder added four assists and Taylor Gillis made six saves in goal (read more).

MOCS ENTER SSC TOURNAMENT AS #4 SEED ... Florida Southern (7-7) won a three-way coin flip with Lynn and Rollins to claim the fourth spot in the Sunshine State Conference tournament, which will be held April 28 and 30 at the University of Tampa. The Moccasins will take on the host Spartans (12-4) at 8 p.m. with #2 Florida Tech (7-6) taking on #3 Lynn (6-6) in the earlier game at 4 p.m. The championship game is April 30 at 2 p.m. (SSC Championship Website).

MOCS TRIPPED UP ON SENIOR NIGHT ... Lynn spoiled the night for the nine Moccasin seniors, handing FSC an 11-8 defeat in the regular season finale on Saturday. Cody Dyer and Nick Gutmann each netted two goals for the the Moccasins while Matt Lalli stopped eight shots in goal (read more).

VANDERLAAN FINISHES SSC RUNNER-UP; MOCS PLACE FIFTH ... A 68 in the final round Tuesday gave junior John VanDerLaan a runner-up finish at the Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championships, while fourth-ranked Florida Southern had a team score of 295 to place fifth as a team (read more). Florida Southern is expected to receive a bid to the upcoming NCAA Division II playoffs, with that announcement being made this Friday (April 28). The top 10 teams from the South Region will play in a Super Regional Tournament along with 10 teams from the Southeast Region in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, May 8-10.

WILLIAMS TAKES FOURTH; MOCS FIFTH AT SSC TOURNEY ... Junior Abbey Williams finished in a tie for fourth place in the SSC Women's Golf Tournament that wrapped Tuesday at the Country Club of Winter Haven. Williams' three-round total of 222 was six off the leader and the Moccasins fell to fifth on day three after charging to second place on day two (read more). Florida Southern is still in the running for a bid to the NCAA postseason, with those teams being announced on Monday, May 1. The top 12 teams in the South Region will earn those spots, with that tournament being played May 8-10 in Elgin, South Carolina.

Miguel Alvarez-Hevia led FSC this season with a 14-6 record.

MEN'S TENNIS CLOSES OUT SEASON IN SSC TOURNAMENT ... Florida Southern dropped a 5-4 decision in a back-and-fourth match to Rollins in the opening round of the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Men's Tennis Tournament held today at the IMG Academy. The 5th seeded Moccasins end their season, 10-11, while the No. 4 seeded Tars improve to 11-9. FSC, ranked 38th in the NCAA Division II, took two of three doubles matches from the 28th ranked Tars (read more).

MOCS DROP SERIES TO TAMPA ... Florida Southern used a six-run seventh inning to overcome a 5-0, fifth inning deficit to take game one of the series 10-7 from Tampa (read more), but couldn't keep the momentum going on Saturday, dropping the doubleheader to the Spartans, 6-4 and 14-12. Jake Walsh got the win on Friday to improve to 10-1 on the season. In the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, FSC got a three-run homer from Austin Mauer and a grand slam off the bat of Logan Browning.

TOUGH ROAD AHEAD ... The 19th ranked Moccasins (30-10, 8-7) hit the road this weekend to take on No. 22 Nova Southeastern in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday. The Sharks are the defending national champions.

SENIOR DAY A DAY EARLY ... Traditionally, senior day is held the last home game of the regular season, but with the Moccasins wrapping up the home regular season with a noon doubleheader on Monday, May 8, the baseball seniors will be recognized prior the the 4 p.m. game on Sunday, May 7, against Barry.

MOCS SPLIT ON SENIOR DAY ... Six Florida Southern seniors got one win to go out on in the last "home" series as the Moccasins split a doubleheader with Nova Southeastern, taking game one 3-2 before falling, 7-3, in game two. Erin Klein's 2-out infield single in the bottom of the eighth led to a throwing error that allowed the winning run to score, giving Florida Southern a 3-2 win in game one, and Kelli Gault tossed 6.0 scoreless and near no-hit innings in game two but early scoring by Nova Southeastern gave the Sharks a 7-3 win in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader (read more). Florida Southern will end the season next weekend, April 28-29 with a three-game series at Tampa. The first game is Friday night at 6 p.m., with the Moccasins and Spartans playing a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

THANK YOU, AUBURNDALE ... Florida Southern concluded its one season at the Auburndale Softball Complex and will return home to play the 2018 season at the brand new Chris Bellotto Softball Field now under construction on the FSC campus.

Aleksa Guerra ran the fifth fastest 800-meter race in FSC history on Saturday at USF.

GUERRA POSTS TOP-TEN FINISH ... Aleksa Guerra posted a top-ten finish in the 800-meter run at the University of South Florida Invitational, with a time of 2:24.90, the fifth fastest time in FSC program history, while Haley Blem turned in a 2:29.81 and Kassidy Watkins had a 2:30.11 mark. Sam Clarke also ran for the Moccasins in the 800-meter with a personal-best time of 2:32.40 (read more).

QUINONES BREAKS OWN RECORD IN 800-METER ... Evan Quinones won the 800-meter run with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:51.02 time here at the USF Collegiate Invitational on the campus of the University of South Florida. The time breaks his own school-record time of 1:51.17 set earlier this year on March 17 and gives the junior the six fastest times in program history in this event (read more).
