CASAS Updates March 2017

As I anticipate spring and consider the lull that occurs in March, I’m reminded of something Ernest Hemingway wrote, “People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.

Fortunately, I am excited that our CASAS team is “as good as spring itself.” The move to DeMoss (which personally, I greatly anticipate), seems to have unleashed new excitement in our services as we have additional opportunities to support students and show God’s love.

These services will continue to be enhanced as we look forward to several changes by the end of the academic year/start of the next one:

  1. CASAS Phase II should be complete. This means the Testing Center, ODAS (online and residential), and CPCE should be relocated before or by May. If all goes well, Kathy, Dwayne, Nina and I will be moved by mid-May as well.
  2. The new CASAS Lobby will be set. This will definitely take some adjustment. We’ve been working with and will continue to coordinate with the area directors to help assure a smooth transition to a central check-in area. I am 100% certain this will require cooperation, flexibility, ingenuity and teamwork to coordinate a successful implementation.
  3. This summer we anticipate work being done on the first floor common areas around DH 1113 and 1114. I don’t know the specifics yet but thanks to those that were able to comment and give some feedback. In the last proposal sent to the construction team for review, I still recall seeing graphics provided by David Hart and ideas from others like Cliff Stumme. Thanks everyone!
  4. Marketing has been working with us to generate a CASAS branding campaign that will supplement the marketing done by each of the individual areas. Specific CASAS entities will be highlighted throughout the campaign. We should have a good plan to share with everyone by the end of the semester.
  5. Lance McClure, through Technical Studies, secured construction of a cornhole set that I am getting on 3/1/17. It was made with pride by our students and we are excited to introduce it to the DeMoss area. Do I really need to explain how this added feature will enhance our services? :)

So remember as we continue to move through the semester. Don’t be a “limiter of happiness.” Instead, be as Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father.
