“Now let me tell you something about the government, they're fucking up the environment. -- They're taking all the fucking beautiful animals, and making them fucking extinct."
- This song is how Tenacious D manages to win over an army surplus employee, played by David Koechner, into giving them walkie talkies for free.
- The album cover shows Jack Black and Kyle Gass in the clouds, parodying Michelangelo's painting The Creation of Adam.
- The Pick Of Destiny album was produced by the Dust Brothers' John King, and includes appearances by Meat Loaf, Ronnie James Dio, and Dave Grohl.
THE HOT TAKES
I'm with Sherry. You can only really say so much about this song. It--maybe perfectly--speaks for itself.
The government totally sucks. That pretty sums up my whole philosophy pretty well. What more is there to say?
This song has always fascinated me, especially it’s context within the film. I’ve always thought it had such a confused message. It does well all through the beginning laying out the government’s bullshit bare, but finishes it off with a Lee Greenwood-esque call to “bring back the USA.” It honestly reminds me of the tea party movement so much. I always felt as if they were confused in their beliefs. On the one hand they preach minimal government but still prostrate themselves before the idea of the United States. The state is the problem. Whatever utility it had in history is ready to be moved beyond.
