Discovering the Role of DNA

In 1865 Gregor Mendel shows the characteristics of pea plants are passed from generation to generation. He learned that cross pollination can change the characteristics of the pea plants.

In 1903 Walter Sutton showed that chromosomes carry the cells units of inheritance

In 1911 Thomas Hunt Morgan said that genes are arranged in linear fashion in the chromosome of the fruit fly.
Oswald Avery, Colin Macleod, and maclyn McCarthy show the substance that Griffith discovered
In 1950 Edwin chargraff found out that the bases, adenine and thymine go together and the bases, guanine and cytosine go together. He also found out that the bases that go together will be equal.
In 1952 Alfred Hershey and Martha chase confirmed that the main genetic material in viruses is DNA. And Franklin x-rayed DNA and found a double helix
In 1953 James Watson and Francis Crick made there model of DNA.

In 2000 Craig enter and Francis Collins announced the draft DNA sequence of the human genome at the White House
