Vasco Núñez de Balboa
Vasco Núñez de Balboa was an explorer that wanted to be the first European to see the Pacific Ocean.
Vasco Núñez de Balboa was born in 1475, in Jerez de los Caballeros,in province of Extremadura in Castile,Spain.When he was 17 years old he heard about Christopher Columbus's trip to the new world and heard lots of stories about him and Balboa tried his own luck in the new world.
In 1500,Balboa went on the Rodrig de Bastidas expedition. After the expedition, Vasco Nunez de Balboa started farming and raised pigs. He was not happy farming and raising pigs, and he ran out of money. To avoid people, he owes money to, he traveled to Santa Domingo by hiding in a barrel with his dog so he could board a ship. During the ride, Balboa was found and was threatened by Fernandez de Enciso to be left at the first island they came across, but Balboa stopped him.
In 1513, Balboa led an expedition to the Pacific Ocean reportedly to the South and for gold, but the news of the discovery arrived after the king had sent Pedro Arias de Avila to serve as the new governor of Darien. Avila the governor was jealous of Balboa and ordered him to be arrested on charge of treason.
After a brief trial, Balboa was beheaded on January 12, 1519, in Acila, near Darién, Panama.
Hernando de Soto
Hernando de Soto was born 1500 in Jerez de los Caballeros,Spain.He had a noble but poor family .A person named Pedro Arias Davila funded de Soto's education at the University of Salamance .De Soto's family wanted him to be a lawyer,but de Soto said he would rather explore the West Indies.
In accordance to his wish, de Soto was invited to join Davila in the 1514 expedition to the Indies.As an excellent horseman,de Soto was the captain of a cavalry exploration troop. De Soto quickly proved his worth as an explorer and trade.
In 1532,explorer Francisco Pizarro made de Soto second in command on Pizarro's expedition to explore the
