PLEASE TAKE THIS SPEED TEST NO MATTER HOW STRONG OR POOR YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION IS!

In June 2020, the Brown County Community School District #1 (serving as the fiscal agent) applied for the Connect IL Broadband grant. $15,000 was awarded and Nick Hendricker is serving as the Brown County Broadband Facilitator. Many local leaders and agencies are involved in this project, including, but not limited to the City of Mt Sterling, Brown County Action, Brown County Library, YMCA, County Board, Brown County Health Department, Brown County Housing Authority, Mental Health Centers of Western Illinois, Dot Foods/Tracy Family Foundation, ROE #1, CASSCOMM and Adams Telephone Co-Operative.

The Steering Committee currently meets several times a month which includes Kris Gallaher (Brown County School District IT Director), Dawn Hughes (Brown County School Board Member), Vada Yingling (City Administrator), Jennifer Ingram (CEO Facilitator), Allix Reich (Action Brown County - Board of Directors Chair), and Dan Teefey (Executive Director Tracy Family Foundation).

Rural access to the internet is an issue in Brown County. If just 10 percent of households in Brown County took a five-minute internet speed test, residents would reach statistical validation to contest the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.

The Brown County Committee for Broadband Access needs to show that the FCC 477 data is inaccurate. The information gathered through the free and anonymous speed test will be used for both short- and long-term planning of internet access for Brown County.

Our goal is to gather as many speed tests as we possibly can. The Brown County Committee for Broadband Access has partnered with GEO Partners, a geospatial engineering firm based in Minnesota. This is the first step in gathering the data needed to apply for additional state and/or federal grants.
