Third Place

The “third place” is where you go and spend time in addition to your home and workplace. In his influential book The Great, Good Place, Ray Oldenburg argues that “third places” are important for civil society, democracy, and civic engagement. “Third places” are “anchors” of community life and facilities and foster broader, more creative interaction.

Speaking of creative interaction! Libraries not only benefit their patrons one at a time, they also act as community hubs, bringing patrons together and connecting them to artistic, cultural and knowledge filled worlds. More than ever we offer more than just books; we are a centralized site where everyone has access to programs and services that incite lifelong learning. What better way to offer access to culture and education than to create an event or program!
