European Trainers Federation AGM 2018 Newmarket

Sponsored by

The 2018 European Trainers’ Federation Annual General Meeting took place in Newmarket over the weekend of December 14th to 16th. Delegates from thirteen countries were not only treated to the extremes of East Anglian weather, but also to stud visits at both Banstead Manor and Dalham Hall, a tour of both the Newmarket gallops and of the Darley Pre-training centre on the Hamilton Road. The Jockey Club rooms was the perfect venue for the ETF drinks party, sponsored by Baileys Horse Feeds, on the Friday evening and the ETF dinner, sponsored by Flair Nasal Strips, on the Saturday evening.

The AGM itself was held at the Bedford Lodge on the Saturday, with delegates discussing a range of topics, including; racing rule harmonisation across Europe, Brexit implications, medication threshold changes, prize money takeout levels in different member countries and how VAT rates differ so widely across member countries. Dr. Paull Khan from the EHMF presented a list of proposed racing rule changes that will affect European trainers. Jim Chiappetta from Flair Nasal Strips put forward a very insightful presentation as to why nasal strips should be permitted for use on all racecourses across Europe and Mark Buchan from Baileys Horse Feed shared the history and philosophy of the iconic horse feed manufacturer.
