RetroStar is a matchmaker. Our customers find one-off pieces that they fall in love with, and even though our staff have seen it happen so many times, it’s The Best Thing Ever, every time. But it’s not just our customers going crazy for our clothes. It happens to our staff too…

Here our team share their best buys from RetroStar, and tell us why they love them so much.

The ‘dreamy green’ dress

“I wore this dress for our New Year’s Eve party and it felt just right to be sipping champagne in it as the fireworks glittered overhead. The colour, the slightly iridescent fabric, the double layered skirt… Everything about this dress is pure glamour, as you’d expect from 1950s eveningwear”. - Rhiannon

The ‘perfect Paris’ dress

“I took this dress to Paris and wore it for a romantic dinner date. The classic 60s shape, delicate beading, and button detailing down the back make me feel so elegant in it.” - Rhiannon

The ‘wildcard’ dress

“This dress is different to my usual style, and that’s what I like about it. It’s fun to mix it up. I love the soft fabric as it drapes so nicely, and the backless design is beautiful.” - Rhiannon

The ‘70s masterpiece’ shirt

“70s is my favourite decade when it comes to vintage. Since I’ve started work at RetroStar I always tend to look out for 70s items and this reworked snakeskin shirt landed in our city store a year ago and it was a no brainer. I’m really pedantic when it comes to a type of print and colour but seeing this shirt and the cut made it an instant purchase.” - Ethan

The “finally!” boots

“I was after a pair of cowboy boots for a couple of years before I found these at the city store. Initially I gravitated towards the colour then I started to appreciate the shape of the boot and the intricate detailing of design shown on the toe box and running up the side of the boot. I finally found them after years of waiting for the perfect pair! - Ethan

The ‘ticks all boxes’ crewneck

“The cut of this jumper paired with the colour and the graphic made it an automatic buy. It’s cool seeing items like this hold value over time, especially when the print expresses a social issue. The fit of the crewneck is the strongest part - a high-cut neck, boxy around the body and slightly oversized arms. You can play around with the dimensions of this piece which makes it unique compared to the generic cuts you’d find in any other vintage crewneck.” - Ethan

The ‘bright and beautiful’ dress

“My staff pick is this amazing sunflower dress I bought five years ago. Wearing it lifts my mood on grey days and makes me want to celebrate the sun on bright ones, so it’s a winner all round!” - Emma

The ‘60s sensation’ blouse

“This 60s blouse was too good to pass up, with its classic high cowl neck and richly coloured paisley print.” - Emma

The ‘print you can’t pass by’ dress

“This beautiful cotton dress sang out to me from the rails with its rich warm tones and Aztec print.” - Emma
