People say... Things to consider when teaching

WE SPEAK AND LISTEN

As teachers we are responsible for fostering a open avenue of communication between yourself and your students as well as students with each other. Students in the classroom not only should have the confidence to voice their opinion and ask questions, but it the responsibility of the teacher to make sure that they are listening to what their students are saying and addressing their concerns. Speaking and listening are important life skills for students to learn.

SOMETIMES WE STRUGGLE TO FINSIH LESSON PLANS

When designing lesson plans, it is often easy to have many ideas and ways to connect to students, but difficult to organize ideas into a comprehensive lesson plan. A great way to help organize yourself is through the principles of backwards design. Its important to remember that when teaching it is not necessary to follow your plan exclusively, you need to be flexible with your students needs and desires.

WE WISH WE COULD SPEAK TO AUTHORITIES FOR THOSE WHO DONT HAVE A VOICE

As the teacher you have a great insight into your students needs and struggles. It is important to keep in contact with administration and those above you to advocate for your students.

WE CREATE JOYFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCES

As teachers we walk a fine line between creating effective learning experiences and creating fun classroom environments. Students will be more engaged when they are enjoying learning, but they still need to understand and recognize that they are learning and not just playing games. The more you are able to connect one lesson to another the more cohesive your curriculum/ units will become and create a greater retention.

OUR SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY IT CONSTANTLY CHANGING

Sometimes we are lucky to have students multiple years, and you can see their growth and how their personality develops. Other times you only have a short window to impact a student, as a teacher it is your responsibility to create as much of an impact on your students in the limited time you have on them.

WE CAN CHANGE NEGATIVITY BY POSITIVELY SPEAKING TO EACH OTHER

There is so much negativity in the world today. You may not be able to change all the negativity in the world, but you can change the amount of negativity that is in your own life. The change starts with how you think, speak, and interact with yourself and those around you. By treating someone with positivity you can create a ripple affect with those around you.
