THE TRIMBLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL GUIDE FOR COMPLETING THE FAFSA A step by step tutorial, for both Students and Parents!

WHAT IS THE FAFSA?

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is administered by the U.S. Department of Education, which provides over $150 billion dollars in student aid, each year.
  • The FAFSA gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college, or career school.
  • It provides students with federal grant money, as well as low interest loans, based on eligibility.

Why Should I Complete the FAFSA?

  • This application is completely free to fill out, and takes about 30 minutes to complete.
  • Many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid.
  • Filling out a FAFSA does not mean that a student has to agree to take the federal grants and loans, that they may be eligible for. However, it does mean that they will always have that option, if they choose to continue their education after high school.

How do I complete the FAFSA?

You can apply for the FAFSA, by first getting a Federal Student Aid ID, from the FSA ID website, and then filling out the rest of the information on the FAFSA website. The links to both websites are at the end of this page.

Both the student and at least one parent or guardian need to have an FSA ID, in order to sign, and complete the FAFSA.

The video at the end of the page is a step by step tutorial, showing how to get an FSA ID and complete the FAFSA.

Trimble County High School is one of 27 GEAR UP schools in the state of Kentucky. As an incentive to get the most students to fill out this application, GEAR UP will pay for a pizza party to the first senior class that gets 85% of its students to complete the FAFSA.

Currently, TCHS is in 3rd place, with 48% of the seniors having completed the FAFSA.

If 27 more seniors complete their FAFSA, we will reach 85%
