Friday Five Pumpkin Addition

The temperature may be closer to summer than fall but those orange round balls of fall fun are back. That's right pumpkins are popping up all over Calvert County. So this week's Friday Five is dedicated to the symbol of fall..the pumpkin.

Driving down Brickhouse Road one day recently, I saw a field full what looked like white, green and orange dots. It's a field of beautiful pumpkins. I had never noticed this before. Sure I have seen the cattle roaming but a field of pumpkins. How did I miss this?

Thanks to some help from Facebook, I learned more about Brickhouse Farms. They open Saturday, October 6th at noon for you to pick your pumpkins. On Sunday, you can stop by the farm for story time at 11am. This week's theme is pumpkin superheroes. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Speaking of family fun, this weekend the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum host it's Family Fun day. This year's event honors Chesapeake Beach's roots with it's boardwalk full of entertainment and games. A Halloween themed model train display, face painting, crafts and refreshments are just a few of the funs things in store for your family. Did I mention to Stop by the Northeast Community Center this Saturday, October 6th from 1 to 4pm and join the fun.

Creepy spiders are not my idea of fun but Swann Farms is documenting the creepy crawler on their facebook page. That's between Pumpkin forecast updates. According to the latest update they are ready for you to pick up pumpkins this weekend. They are open Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 5pm.

Speaking of those creepy crawlers, you don't want to miss the farm fun at Spider Hill Farms. Catch a hayride out to the pumpkin patch or run through this years maze. There is something for everyone here including a petting zoo. Did I mention the large slide? It's the perfect place to make family memories, a goal of the amazing farm. The Fall Festival is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 6pm. There is an admission charge $11 for 4 to 13 year olds, $5 for anyone over 13 and kids under 3 are free.

It's the season for picking your pumpkins but it's also the season for pumpkin flavor. You can find those amazing flavors at my house's favorite, Calvert Kettle Corn. Just in time for the last couple of North Beach Farmer's Market, they will have a special Halloween mix. You can also try out the Carmel Apple, Apple Pie and Autumn Mix. Can't make it to the farmers market? No worries. They are open Tuesdays through Sunday's from Noon to 5pm.
