Assemblies

Friday Assemblies

Each Friday morning we have a celebration assembly (9.00-9.30 am).

Every week a child from each class is awarded ‘star of the week’ (see above) and they receive their certificate during this assembly on a Friday. If your child has been nominated you will receive a text from us on Thursday afternoon inviting you to join us at assembly and it would be great to see you. All parents are welcome to join us in assembly though, so if you can spare the time on a Friday morning and you want to join us please feel free to do so.

Class Assemblies

All assemblies take place at 2.50 pm and all parents/guardians are welcome to attend to celebrate the children’s work. This year classes will also be hosting celebration afternoons, during which parents will be invited into school to share and celebrate learning with their children. Watch out for further details from your child’s teacher.

Open Days

If you have a younger child who is looking to join our school in September 2020, or you know someone else that does, we have two dates in the diary:

  • Thursday 3 October at 6.30 pm
  • Tuesday 8 October at 1.15 pm or 2.15 pm

Secondary School Admissions

I appreciate it may seem early in the year, but Year 6 parents please note that secondary school applications need to be submitted by 31 October 2019. Please click on the link to complete your application.

Both Darwen Vale and DACA staff have been into school to talk to Year 6 children and you will be able to find details of the secondary school open nights on those school websites.

Out of School Clubs

Thank you to all parents that have booked into one or both of our out of school clubs and for being patient with us during the first two weeks of term with the new online system. As far as we are aware we have registered with all of the vouchers companies that you use but if there are others that you may use in the future please let us know.

A new email account has been set up to make things easier for all parents. So, if you have any queries regarding Breakfast Club or After School Club please make contact via outofschoolclubs@avondale.blackburn.sch.uk

I appreciate that there have been a number of changes regarding bookings over the last few weeks and this is entirely understandable at the start of a new year. During the course of next week staff at both clubs will be checking with you regarding the accuracy of your bookings and thereafter I must remind you that you will be charged for the sessions you have booked. In addition, if you need any extra and/or ad hoc sessions we would ask that you give us at least 48 hours’ notice.

Nasal Flu Vaccinations

You will have received information earlier this week regarding the above. It is important that you return the form whether you want your child to have the vaccination or not. If you have more than one child in school, you must complete a form for EACH child. The vaccinations will take place in school on Tuesday 8 October. Please return all forms by Friday 20 September.

Aldi’s Kit for Schools

If you’re an Aldi shopper you probably already know about the supermarket’s new initiative? If not, for every £30 you spend in store you can get a Team GB sticker (available from 6 September to 3 November). Once we have collected all 300 Team GB stickers we can claim a free sports kit for the school, containing bibs, batons, balls etc. After this, our entry will go into a draw for a chance to win the school £20,000. So, please send in the stickers and pass the message to your family and friends.

Uniforms

Children have come back to school looking super smart – thank you for this. Please, please make sure your child’s uniform is fully labelled.
