Walker Christensen DHM Principal | PLA

"I love all of my small town projects because of the feeling that you get that you are doing something positive for the community. You can see that you really are having a direct impact on the people's quality of life."

"Probably my favorite project so far was Brian's Park Hockey Rink in Victor, Colorado."

"When I was a kid, my brothers. neighbor and I used to build stuff outside quite a bit. I would come up with the idea and I would put them to work. We built an 18-hole miniature golf course and hand-dug a swimming pool."

In high school, Walker looked up the definition of landscape architecture in an encyclopedia and was immediately hooked. “The idea of designing places where people drive, play, go to school – it sounded like a great way to spend my career. To be outside, meeting people and making their physical world better.”

"I understand small communities. I'm from a small town called Penrose, Colorado and I can relate to limited resources for things like parks and trails. I don't try to tell communites what they need. I listen to what the people living there want."

Walker and his wife, Ann, started the DHM Durango office in 2004. Surrounded by the mountains, deserts, and rivers of Southern Colorado, they serve the communities of the southwest and follow their passion to protect the stunning beauty of an environment rich in culture, history and geographic identity.
