Kate DiCamillo."Kate" born March 25,1964 she usually writes books for all reading levels, Usually that pertain animals. "Kate" has won two Newberry Medals. The Tale of Despereaux in(2003) and Flora and Ulysses in (2013)

The setting time and place of Because of Winn-Dixie took place between the 1960s and 1990s in the small town of Naomi, Florida. The trailer park, church, library, pet store.

Opal was abandoned by her mother years ago, Opal moved in with her father in a small town in Florida. Opal got lonely and started missing her friends, Opal is very happy to have found a little rambunctious dog. So she found the dog and kept it and named it Winn-dixie. She had found Winn-Dixie at the store.

Opal, Winn-Dixie, The preacher, Gloria Dump, Miss Franny Block, Otis.

Opal- Kind girl, owner of winn-dixie, 10 years old, red hair.

Winn-Dixie- Ugly old dog

The preacher- Opals father, caring to the less fortunate

Mrs. Franny- Small, old short gray hair

Otis- Works at Gertrude's Pets-thick black hair that is slicked back.

One conflict in the book is when Opal finds Winn-Dixie and she has to convince her dad to let her keep Winn-Dixie and she does convince her dad to let her keep him if he is quite and doesn't disturb the neighbors.

It's hard not to immediately fall in love with a dog who has a good sense of humor. (Chapter 1, page 12) Because she is lonely and she had to move in with her father so she needed someone to keep her company.

Sometimes he reminded me of a turtle hiding inside its shell, in there thinking about things and not ever sticking his head out into the world.(Chapter 2, page 16) Because Opal is like a turtle in a shell when she has to move in with her father.

1.litmus - a coloring material that turns red in acid solutions

2.lozenge- a small aromatic or medicated candy

3.convict -find or declare guilty

4.likable -easy to like, agreeable

5.Otis-United States inventor who manufactured the first elevator with a safety device

Overall I would recommend this book because it is a good book for Family, friends, kids and a-lot of the stuff in this book ties to the real world because most kids do get put in the situation where they have to choose if they are gonna live with their dad or mom.
