Math Bowl Team receives 1st in Division at Area Meet

On Thursday, February 21st, the LES Math Bowl Team competed in the area meet at Paoli. They received 1st place in their division! Congratulations to the team and Coach Gibson!

100th Day of School

We had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school! Our kindergartners were investigators who were on a mission to save Zero the Hero.

First graders celebrated the 100th day with making 100th day crowns, counting out 100 fruit loops in groups of 10s, counting coins different ways to equal 100 cents. We read the 100th Day Worries story and retold the story using at LEAST 100 words. We did 100 jumping jacks in 20 increments.

The second graders set a goal to collect 100 items for the local food bank to honor the 100th Day of School. They collected 121 canned goods!

Third grader did a 100 cup challenge by making a tower using 100 cups. They also took pictures using an app. It made the student's faces look "100 years old." They also had to complete a writing assignment with the photos about their life at 100 years old.

3rd Graders attend STEM Field Trip to WestGate

The third graders enjoyed their annual field trip to West Gate where they participated in two projects. First, they used the Lego We-Do kits to design a robot creature using step-by-step directions. They then used a form of coding to program their robot to make a designated noise when it detected motion. For the second half of the field trip, the students participated in a STEM challenge. Students were "NASA Engineers" that had to use materials to create a safe way for their cabin to fall from different heights while keeping their "astronaut" safely in the cabin. When students met the challenge, they were then challenged further by having some of their materials removed. In both projects, the students worked in small groups and had to persevere through challenges and work together as a team to complete their design.

Spreading Kindness

Students at Loogootee Elementary have been spreading kindness. Each class participated in lessons about kindness lead by our Youth First Social Worker, Ms. Megan Lottes. Students then created a school wide kindness paper chain by writing acts of kindness on the paper chain links. A kindness station was also set up so students could write positive and encouraging notes to others.
