Saving the Supers By Elizabeth Marquardt

Working at the Department of Extra Normal Operations (DEO) is the most high tech place I've ever been to. There are 6 TVs working as a big screen with a semi- circle with computers to help track aliens. It's in the middle of the 100 story building, however it is probably the most top secret organization in the world.

Oh wait, I forgot the most important part. My name is Emmy. I'm 11 years old and I grew up on the planet Krypton with my cousin Kara. We were sent to earth to use our powers and protect people. However, Kara’s ship made it to earth, but she pulled the Kryptonian prison with her, filled with the galaxy's worst criminals. My ship got stuck in time for 15 years in space and by the time I made it to earth as an 11 year old girl, Kara had already grown up and become Supergirl. Now being a 28 year old girl, at first I didn't recognize who she was. She's known for flying all over National City and saving people's lives. In secret, we work at the DEO with her adoptive sister Alex protecting humans from alien life while capturing all the aliens. Alex is older too so I'm the youngster in the house.

It was just an average day, Kara at work, Alex tracking aliens along with Hank, the director, and Winn, Kara’s best friend, and then there's me, just waiting for something interesting to happen. Then Alex found some shocking news. I jumped out of my seat.

“Oh my god.” she said.

“What's going on?” I asked.

“You know Clark one of the smartest aliens? Well he's starting a mind controlling mission that's making humans die. I'm already starting to feel it,” she stated. “I'm calling Kara. She needs to get over here.”

I forgot to mention, Kara works during the day for a media company. Not very interesting on my hands.

The next thing you know, Kara comes flying through the open window. Alex explained to Kara what was happening. For some reason, all humans were starting to get major headaches.

What the heck is going on? I'm not feeling anything and everyone else is dying. I thought. I stopped for a second. Wait. Maybe it's because I'm the only alien here. I'm not human. Wait, no I am human just with powers. Jeez, get it together you idiot.

“Wait, can someone explain to me what's going on?” I asked.

“Clark has started a mind controlling mission that is taking over human minds. Eventually, it’s going to get so bad that all humans are going to die. And that's in 20 minutes.” Alex finally replied. Everyone at the DEO starting going crazy in pain.

“Well what are we gonna--”

“Emmy, you and I are going to fly to their headquarters. We have to defeat Clark first and then shut the mission down.” said Kara.

So the next thing I knew, Kara and I flew to the middle of the desert where the mission was headquartered inside the Kryptonian prison. And immediately, Clark came right out of hiding. And right then, Kara threw a punch that sent Clark about 20 feet. He came right back up and zoomed right towards me. I dodged under him right when he tried to punch me and then Kara used her laser vision to put him down. I went to stand right over him.

“You just got beat by an 11 year old girl, take that you dork.” I said. Then I kicked him all the way across the desert. It felt good to kick someone all the way across the desert because now, from all that training for 6 months, I am now almost as strong as Kara. And boy can she kick and punch people. I love my cousin Kara. I look up to her so much. But the only thing is, is that Kara and Alex are going to make me go to school like any other kid. They promised that I could stay at the DEO for a year and train for 6 months and fight for 6 months, but then I had to go to school during the day, but then it was good I got to come back. The only thing was I had to go really far to sleep because I have to go stay with Eliza, Kara’s adoptive mom, but I didn't mind that. Ok, sorry that was a little off topic. I tend to do that a lot.

“Come on Emmy, let's go we don't have much time.” Kara said.

When we stepped into the prison, there was a mini wind storm set on the table in front of a big screen with a timer: 3 minutes 12 seconds.

“There's no way we can stop it Alex.” Kara said. We Have an earpiece so we can talk to each other whenever we want.

“So what now?” I asked.

“There's only one way we can stop it.” Kara explained. There was a long pause. “I have to fly it up into space myself. Emmy, I don't think I can do it alone.”

“So, we’re going to die Kara? I don't….” I asked in a very light voice.

“Emmy, you and I were sent here to protect the earth. We’ve done our job. We’ve saved millions of people's lives. It's ok if we die heros.” Kara said.

“No, you guys are not going to do that. In space you can’t breathe and you can't move. I am not going to lose you today Kara.” Alex said through our earpieces.

“Alex, you already heard me. I’ve already done my job here. Together, we’ve saved people's lives.” Kara replied.

The timer went off: 1 minute until all humans die.

“Alex there's not much time, we have to do it.”

“I… can’t……” Alex started. There was a long pause. “I love you Kara. I love you Emmy.”

“I love you Alex.” We both said at the same time.

“Thanks for everything.” I added.

Kara and I headed outside. Time was running out.

“Kara, are we gonna actually-”

“I love you Emmy. You’re the best little sister.” Kara replied. I started to cry. At first she thought I was fine, just getting a little upset, so she patted me on the back. It hurt a little bit since she has super strength. She gave me a big hug and a kiss and said it was time to go.

I went on one side of the thirty foot high prison and Kara went on the other. It was the heaviest thing I've ever lifted in the life. We got higher and higher and higher until we reached the atmosphere. We let go and we were in space. I started to lose my breathe and I grabbed Kara's hand as we drifted into space until something strange happened. A blur came into sight and somehow I was able to breathe again.

. . .

I woke up to the smell of the DEO in confusion. I slowly opened my eyes saw Kara right next to me.

I'm alive! I thought. Kara was barely awake just like me trying to figure out what was going on. Right when Alex walked up to me, I had one million questions but I decided not to ask.

“How did you-” Kara started.

“I started your ship and flew it up to space. Your welcome for that.” Alex replied sarcastically.

We both sat up and started laughing. That was probably the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. But luckily I was with my inspiration, the person that was okay risking their life for other people. I'm glad I get to spend the next 6 months beating aliens butts with my role model, cousin and best friend Kara, even though she's 17 years older than me.
