CCS Tuesday Afternoon Professional Development Every Tuesday all CCS students will be released at 1:55, one hour earlier than on every other day, in order to allow our 63 teachers and support staff to engage in ongoing professional development. We so appreciate this opportunity to collaborate with each other in order to improve the learning of every CCS student
This year's professional development work will center around the four themes identified in the 2018 CVSD Continuous Improvement Plan: Proficiency, Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS), Personalization and Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
Proficiency: The goal is to continue the development of our proficiency-based learning system that establishes desired results, determines acceptable evidence, designs relevant instruction, and tracks and reports progress. This will include work around our common learning targets at each grade level and in each discipline, our assessment systems, and how we share this information with students and parents.
Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS): A successful proficiency-based learning environment has systems and structures to provide differentiation, instructional adjustments, and, when necessary, targeted interventions for all learners. A multi-tiered system of support provides this structure. This will include work on our assessment systems and how we analyze student work in order to provide appropriate follow-up instruction that assures growth for all students.
Personalization: The goal is to develop systems and processes to engage and empower learners, allowing students to offer their voice and make choices in determining meaningful and relevant pathways to proficiency. To this end, we strive to provide every student with a personalized learning process (PLP) where they continually plan, connect, reflect, and share about their learning. This will include our work around personal interest projects (PIPs) and advisories.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): The goal is to help all students develop skills to understand and manage their emotions, show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions needed in order to be successful for school and life. This learning will empower students to be productive citizens that demonstrate resilience. SEL programming will reduce aggression and emotional distress and will increase academic performance. This will include our work in PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) as we strive to assure that every member of our community is taking care of themselves, of each other and this place.
