Kate in the Kettle Quintet (Intl.) Plavajoči grad, Grad Snežnik, 4. 8. 2017

Kate in the Kettle takes us on a multi-cultural path of the idiosyncratic: hypnotic songs of folk plant-medicine woven into string quintet arrangements of zest and enchantment.

Kate in the Kettle is the name given to a shape-shifting line-up of international musicians, predominately led by Scottish folk singer, fiddler and composer, Kate Young. In 2014 her debut album, 'Swimmings of the Head' was received with high acclaim from Songlines, The Guardian and MOJO "enthralling". It proved as a celebration of innovation and the weaving together of similarities between Scottish, Scandinavian and Indian traditions.

Kate Young is also known for her work with Eliza Carthy MBE in Carthy, Hardy, Farrell & Young, Songs of Separation and Moulettes.

After a successful showcase of her 'New Voices' commission at Celtic Connections in January, 2016 sees Kate joined by an exciting new line-up with fresh songs arranged for string quintet which explore the folkloric traditions surrounding plant medicine.

Launched at Umefolk festival, Sweden in February, the stellar musicians draw upon their diverse and rich musicianship which has been cultivated through meeting in the "Ethno" movement. These include Sofia Högstadius (SE), Claudia Schwab (AT) , Barja Drnovšek (SLO) and Toby Kuhn (FR/USA). Each musician while stylistically defined in their own right, come together to create a quite unique performance.
