Great Expectations

"It was the first time that a grave had opened in my road of life, and the gap it made in the smooth ground was wonderful"(Pg.217) .This sentence talks about how this is the first death that Pip has had to go through, because even though his parents have passed away, he was to young to have any memories of them.I chose this quote because this is something that Pip has never gone through before and it captures his feelings about his sister.

"Miserably I went to bed after all, and miserably thought of Estella, and miserably dreamed that my expectations were all cancelled, that I had to give my hand in marriage to Herbert's Clara,or play hamlet to miss Havisham's Ghost, before twenty thousand people, without knowing twenty words of it."(Pg.202)This quote talks about how Pip is in pain, but he cant do anything because he still loves Estella.I chose this quote because it shows how if Estella was raised different then she may have had feelings for Pip.

"No wisdom on earth could have given me the comfort that i should have derived from their simplicity and fidelity; but i could never, never, never, undo what i had done."(Pg.254) Pip is talking about how he gave up the people he loved just to become a gentleman. He is now starting to realize what he has done.I chose this quote because this is when pip learns what he has really done.

My possible theme for is, If you focus only on yourself, you could be hurting the ones you love

My Motifs are - Love , Heartbreak, Social class

At the end of part two , Pip starts to realize that he will has wasted his life up to know because he was trying to get Estella but that will never happen. And he realizes that he has abandoned his family and he is starting to feel bad about it.
