Meet the Musicians

Amber Heiniger

Flute

Amber is a junior and has performed with the following ensembles: Sally’s flute choir, PJHS Honor Band, Holiday Flute Choir, NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Normal Marching Band and the Musical Pit Orchestra. This is her second year in Chamber Winds. She has received Division 1 Ratings at IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest (for both solo and ensemble work), and she received a perfect score with her Flute Quartet. She has received Outstanding Musician Awards for both her Freshman and Sophomore years. Amber would like to thank her flute teacher, Alex Hunter, and her parents. Amber lives in Carlock with her family. Her astrological sign is Libra.

ADDI GANSCHOW

Flute

Addi is a sophomore and has performed with the following ensembles: Sally’s Flute Choir, Band at Eastview Christian Church, Holiday Flute Choir, Normal West Wind Ensemble, and the Normal Marching Band. Addi received Division I ratings at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest (for both solo and ensemble work) and received a perfect score with her Flute Quartet. This is her first year performing with Chamber Winds. Addi would like to thank her flute teacher, Sally Hoffmann, her parents, and her dog. Addi lives with her parents, sisters Lena and Elsah, and her puppy. Her astrological sign is Cancer.

GAbbi schwalm

Oboe

Gabby is a junior and has performed with the following ensembles: Musical Pit Orchestra for two years, the Bloomington Normal Youth Symphony, NCWHS Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra Winds. She has been a member of the Chamber Winds for two years. Gabby received Division I ratings at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble contest including a perfect score and “Best of the Day”. She was selected as a member of the Bradley University Freshman/Sophomore Honor Band. Gabby would like to thank her parents for paying for her reeds. Gabby is a member of the NCWHS STEM program, and her astrological sign is Cancer.

MASON JANVRIN

Oboe

Mason is a freshman and has performed with the NCWHS Wind Ensemble and as a member of the ISYM Double Reed week this past summer. This is his first year in Chamber Winds. Mason has received a Division I rating at Solo and Ensemble Contest and was named an Outstanding Musician in junior high school. Mason would like to thank his private teacher Rob Dunagan, Rob’s Cat , Rob’s Table and Rob’s old chair. He would also like to thank his parents for buying everything for his oboe, and driving him to everything! Mason plays soccer and has played the oboe since 5th grade. His astrological sign is Pisces.

Emily Tung

Clarinet

Emily is a senior and has performed with the following ensembles: Clarinet Choir, NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Orchestra Winds, Bloomington Summer Theater Pit Orchestra, ILMEA District 3 Band and ILMEA All-State Band. Emily has received Division I ratings at the IHSA Solo & Ensemble contest the past 3 years. Last year she received a perfect score for chamber winds at that contest. Emily would like to thank her mother, private teacher - Judy Mathieson, siblings - Jessica and Wesley Tung, and her directors, Ms. Preston and Mr. Budzinski. Emily lives in Bloomington with her mother and cat, Saber. She is also a pianist. Her astrological sign is Saggiarius.

Miguel Velasco

Clarinet

Miguel is a junior and has participated in the following ensembles: NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Orchestra Winds, Musical Pit Orchestra, Normal Marching Band, and Holiday Clarinet Choir. This is Miguel’s first year in Chamber Winds. Miguel has been selected for the ILMEA All-District Band. Miguel has received Division I ratings at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest. He would like to thank his mom, grandparents, and his private instructor, Judy Matheison. Miguel has a dog named Ava, and his astrological sign is Capricorn.

Maia Eames

Clarinet

Maia is a junior and has performed in the following ensembles: NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Normal Marching Band, Holiday Clarinet Choir, and Musical Pit Orchestra. This is Maia’s second year in Chamber Winds. She has been selected as a member of the ILEMA All District Band. She has also received Division I ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest. Last year her Clarinet Choir performance received a perfect score. Maia would like to thank her family, friends, and her private teacher, Beth Hildenbrand. Maia loves popcorn and her favorite selection is Loch Lomond! Maia’s astrological sign is Aries.

Grant Larsen

Bass Clarinet

Grant is a senior and has performed in the following ensembles: NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Musical Pit Orchestra, Normal Marching Band, and Holiday Clarinet Choir. Grant was selected as a member of the ILMEA All District Band as well as the All State Honors Band, and he was placed as the principal players of those groups. Grant received Division I ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest as well as receiving a perfect score for his Clarinet Ensemble and Best of the Day for his solo work. Grant would like to thank his mom, dad, Luna, and private instructor, Judy Mathieson. Grant’s astrological sign is Cancer.

Avery Gibson

Bass Clarinet

Avery is a sophomore and has performed with the NCWHS Wind Ensemble, Normal Marching Band, Holiday Clarinet Choir, and Musical Pit Orchestra. She was selected for the ILMEA All District Band. Avery received Division I ratings at IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest as well as receiving a perfect score and Best of the Day with her Clarinet Ensemble. Avery would like to thank her mom and her private instructor, Judy Mathieson. Avery has been playing Bass Clarinet for 5 years, and her astrological sign is Cancer.

Quinn Fansler

Bassoon

Quinn is a senior and has performed in the following ensembles: NCWHS Wind Ensemble, ISYM, Normal Marching Band, Jazz Kats, Orchestra Winds, and Musical Pit Orchestra. Quinn received Division I ratings at the IHSA Solo and Ensemble contest and received Best of the Day and a perfect score for Chamber Winds. Quinn would like to thank mom, dad, Christine Breeden and private instructor, ISU Professor Michael Dicker. Quinn plays Mellophone in the marching band and piano in Jazz Kats. Quinn’s astrological sign is Leo.

Lisa Preston

Chamber Coach

​Ms. Preston has been a high school band director for over twenty-five years. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Northern Illinois University and a Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Connecticut where she studied under Gary Green. She is currently the conductor of the Normal West High School Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, and Symphonic Band. She is also co-director of the Normal Marching Band, director of the flute choir, color guard sponsor, and chapter adviser for the Normal West Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Ms. Preston served as the Normal West Music Department Chairperson from 1995-2004. Ms. Preston has received the "Teacher of the Year" award from the Normal West High School Future Teachers' Club, and has four times received the Student Council "Teacher Recognition" award. Under her direction, the Normal West High School Bands have received four Mayoral Declarations from the Town of Normal for excellence in both marching and concert bands. Prior to her appointment at Normal West, Ms. Preston taught at Normal Community High School and Danville High School (IL). Ms. Preston received eleven Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association.
