Chester Zoo Sumatran Tiger Enclosure CASE STUDY FOR THE APPLICATION OF A TIGER PROOF SEAMLESS SPRAY APPLIED MEMBRANE FOR CHESTER ZOO

Chester Zoo contacted Unique Resins Ltd to provide a coating to their new tiger den walls. This needed to be strong enough to withstand tiger claws and teeth; whilst being waterproof, steam cleanable and able to withstand the vigorous cleaning regime.

Chester Zoo asked Unique Resins to coat play toys in a variety of different products in order for them to ascertain which product from the range would be most suitable for their needs. Over a two test period, Chester Zoo compared the products and decided that Metflex HD was the most durable.

Tiger den before work commenced.

In order for the Metflex HD to be applied successfully, render was applied to the tiger den walls to ensure a smooth, aesthetically pleasing finish.

Metflex Primer was applied to the rendered walls to provide maximum adhesion for the Metflex HD system. Once the primer had been applied and cured, areas not to be treated with Metflex HD were masked off.

Keeper area's were also treated with Metflex HD.

Completed tiger dens.
