Y2 Trip to the National Railway Museum

Year 2 children are visiting the National Railway Museum at York on WEDNESDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2021 as part of their Year 2 studies. The museum tells the story of rail transport through the ages. Children will need to to arrive at school at normal school start time - 8.50am with a Packed Lunch. They will return to school for normal pickup time - 3.15pm.

Y3 Mystery Trip to Birmingham

As part Year 3 children’s studies, a mystery trip has been arranged to visit Birmingham on the FRIDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2021. Your child should arrive in school at an earlier time of 7.50am and should have a packed lunch to take with them on the trip.The coach will be leave school early at 8:00am and will arrive back at school at a later time of 5:00pm.

Inset Day - Monday 8th November

Please note that School is closed on MONDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2021 due to our School's Inset Day.

Year 2 Trip To Worsbrough St Thomas's Church

Year 2 will be visiting Worsbrough St Thomas's Church on WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2021. Children will set off walking from school at 11am and have lunch in the Community Centre then visit the church to look at the features of a religious building. Please ensure your child has suitable weatherproof clothing, coat with a hood or a hat and sensible footwear for the visit.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone for all your generous donations on the day. We raised an amazing £500.00 which has been divided between several cancer charities. Thank you again to your amazing kindness.

Harvest Festival

A BIG THANKYOU to everyone as we had a tremendous donation for our Harvest Festival Collection. All donations were sent to Barnsley Churches Drop-In Project who are a local charity supporting local people affected by poverty, addiction and homelessness.

Poppy Appeal Fundrasing

We are again supporting the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in school this year. We have poppies and reflectors poppies for sale in the School Reception for a donation. We also have a few different gifts eg. snap bands £1.50, silicon wristbands £1, zip pills 50p and reflector poppies £50p etc. which will also be sold in School Breakfast Club every morning. These items are now available in school.

NHS Flu Immunisation

Please note that the NHS Flu Immunisation Team are in School on WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2021 to give pupils in Reception and Years 1 to 6 the Flu Immunisation. The NHS Flu Immunisation Team have already made contact with parents direct to get 'Parental Consent'. If you have any queries regarding the NHS Flu Immunisation Team please contact them direct on telephone number 01226 438828.

World Kindness Day

On FRIDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2021 we are having our WORLD KINDNESS DAY at School. We will be rewarding children for their acts of kindness throughout the day.

Anti-Bullying Week

On the w/c 15TH NOVEMBER 2021 we have our Anti-Bullying Week. All classes will be having lessons throughout the week to raise awareness of importance of kindness. We will be using resources from the Anti-Bullying Alliance (anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk) which has a theme of 'One Kind Word'. During the week children are encouraged to wear ODD SOCKS!!!!!

Children in Need Day

We are 'Wearing Spots' this year again for Children in Need on FRIDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2021 as a Non-Uniform Day with a donation of £1.00.

Year 6 SAT's Dates

Please note that the Year 6 SAT's dates will be held on the week commencing MONDAY 9TH MAY 2021 up FRIDAY 13TH MAY 2022.

Christmas Fayre

On FRIDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2021 we are hoping to hold our Christmas Fayre. The children are all working hard through an enterprise project to 'make and market' a product to sell on the day. We can't wait to see you all.

Autumn 2 Curriculum Long Term Overview

Please see below the Autumn 2 Term Curriculum Longer Term Overview. This will show parent/carers what pupils are learning this Autumn 2 Term in school throughout November and December 2021.

Parent's School Calendar Events

National School Breakfast - Bagels

Mrs Binns has managed, again, to acquire bagels everyday for all children in school from the National Breakfast Bagels Scheme. Children will be able to enjoy these bagels in school every morning.

Sports & After School Sports Section

Primary Sports Club

The After School Multi-sports Clubs run by Chris and Lee at Ward Green Primary School.

Children should be collected from the school reception at their pick up time and money should be paid on the day, directly to the sports coaches at pick up time.

YMCA Club - Year 6

YMCA Club - Reminder that the YMCA Club for the Year 6 is starting this THURSDAY 4th NOVEMBER 2021 3.30pm to 5pm for the Year 6 children.

School's Sporting Calendar for 2021-22:

Barnsley Hospice Rudolph Run

Week commencing 29th November all children will be taking part in the Barnsley Hospice Rudolph Run. They complete as many laps of the playground as they can n PE sessions dressed as reindeers. Antlers and red noses are free for all children and children will be bringing home a sponser sheet 2 weeks prior to this date.

WGPS School's After Sports Club

Mrs Utley starts her School's After Sports Club on a Tuesday 3.30-4.30pm starting from Tuesday 2nd November 2021. The 20 places for this club have already been allocated and parents notified if their child has got a place on this club.

Mrs Utley is also starting her Year 5/6 Friday Morning Running Club on Friday's starting at 8.15am on Friday 4th November 2021. Children involved in this club have already been allocated a place and parents notified of their child's place on this club.

WGPS's After School Sports Clubs

The following WGPS's After School Clubs are starting next week w/c 8th November 2021 (Monday clubs start on 15th November) 3.30pm to 4.30pm costing £1.00 per child. It is on a first come first serve basis and you can book your child's place by making payment on ARBOR. The final week of WGPS's After School Clubs will be the w/c 6th December 2021. The list of clubs available are below:

Mondays - KS2 Dance (Miss Keen) , Y5-Y6 Craft Club (Mrs Moody) and KS1 Outdoor Adventure (Miss Mendil)

Tuesdays - Whole School Young Voices (Miss Davies), KS2 Sewing (Mrs Hill), KS1 Craft Club (Mrs Marshall)

Wednesdays - Y4-Y5-Y6 Chess Club (Mr Burns)

Thursdays - KS2 Playing Card Games (Mr Honeyman)

Children will be invited to attend a variety of sporting fixtures across the year involving Barnsley schools. The first fixtures are:

Y3-4 Football - Friday 12th NOVEMBER 2021

Y5-6 Football - Friday 19th NOVEMBER 2021
