What is wrestling

- Wrestling is the sport or activity of grappling with an opponent and trying to throw or hold them down on the ground, typically according to a code of rules.

The Rules

  • How the matches were fought
  • The holds that were used
  • They would smother themselves with olive oil and some type of dust to make it easier to fight in muddy pits
  • No punching
  • You couldn't gouge your opponents eyes or face with your fingernails
  • Tripping and biting were not allowed
  • Everything else was legal in this event

Interesting Fact

  • Wrestling hasn't changed that much between ancient Greece olympics and now
  • There are more rules now but not much has changed
