Chemical Reactions Evie Rosseel, Gabbie Kopchinsky, Caleb Mcmillan

Synthesis: Formation of a binary compund: A + B -> AB, example: Fe + O2 -> Fe2O. Metal Oxide-water reaction: MO + H2O -> base, example: BaO + H2O -> BaOH. Nonmetal water-oxide reaction: (NM)O + H2O -> Acid, example: CO2 + H2O -> H2CO3

Decomposition: Binary Compounds: AB -> A + B, example: NaCl -> Na + CL2. Metallic Carbonate: MCO3 -> MO + CO2, example: Li2CO3 -> Li + (CO3)2. Metallic Hydrogen Cabonates: MHCO3 -> MO + H2O +CO2, example: NaHCO3 -> Na2O + H20 + CO2. Metallic hydroxides: MOH -> MCI + O2, examples: 2Al(OH)3 -> Al2O3 + 3H2O. Metallic chlorates: MCIO3 -> MCI + O2, examples: 2KCLO3 -> 2KCL + 3O2. Oxyacids decompose to nonmetal oxides and water: acid -> (NM)O + H2O, examples: H2CO3 -> H2O+CO2.

Single Replacement: Metal-metal replacement: A + BC -> AC + B, example: Li +NaCl -> LiCl + Na. Active metal replaces H from water: M + H20 -> MOH + H2, examples: Li + H20 -> LiOH + H2. Active metal replaces H from Acid: M + HX -> MX + H2, examples: Al + H2SO4 -> Al2(SO4)3 +H2. Halide-Halide replacement: D + BC -> BD + C, examples: F2 + NaCl -> NaF + Cl2.

Double Replacement: AB + CD -> AD + CB. Formation of a percipitate from solution, example: NaOH + MgCl2 -> NaCl + MgOH2. Acid-base neutalization reaction, example: H2SO4 + 2NH4OH -> (NH4)2SO4 + 2H2O.

Combustion Reaction: Hydrocarbon + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water, example: C10H22 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O

Activity Series With Single Replacement: A meal can replace another metal if it is above it on the activity series

Solubility Rules: Follow the chart in the reference table and see what atoms are soluble or insoluble according to the group they are placed in. There are some exceptions.
