Falcons Pull Away in Second Half, en route to a 38-19 win over Arizona
The Atlanta Falcons defense held the Arizona Cardinals to only six points in the second half, as the team pulled away to win 38-19.
The Falcons offense put up 360 total yards against the Cardinals, who were ranked first in opponent’s total yardage coming into week 12 (287.4). The offense also averaged 6.6 yards per pass.

QB Matt Ryan went 26-of-34 for 269 yards with two touchdowns and a passer rating of 106.1. His 269 yards are the highest passing total the Cardinals defense has allowed all season. Ryan is the first player in NFL history to pass for 200+ yards in 50 consecutive games. Ryan has also thrown at least one passing touchdown in 13 straight games.
RB Devonta Freeman recorded his fourth and fifth rushing touchdown of the season. Those two touchdowns were Freeman’s 23rd as a pro, which ties him T.J. Duckett for the second most touchdowns through a Falcons player first three seasons, only Gerald Riggs (26) has more. He also has 17 rushing touchdowns, which bumped him to 11th on the franchise list, tied with Dave Hampton. He finished the game with 60 rushing yards on 16 carries and two receptions for 17 yards.
WR Taylor Gabriel had his fourth straight game with a touchdown, and his first ever multi-touchdown game. He scored on 35-yard pass in the second quarter, and a 25-yard pass to put the Falcons ahead 31-13 in the fourth. This is the first time two players have had multi-touchdown games in the same game since week three of 2015 (Freeman – 3; Jones – 2). He finished the game with four receptions for 75 yards and one carry for 27 yards.
RB Tevin Coleman scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter on a two-yard run. He and Freeman are currently tied for the team lead with seven total touchdowns. The two also combined for 108 total yards on the day, which is the seventh time this season the two have combined for 100+ yards.
The defense held one of the NFL’s leading rushers to only 58 yards on 13 carries. In the past 27 games, the defense has only allowed two 100-yard rushers. The defense has also recorded a sack in 10 straight games.
DT Courtney Upshaw and DE Brooks Reed combined for the first sack of the game. Upshaw now has .5 sacks on the year and 5.5 for his career. Reed has 1.5 sacks on the season and 16 sacks for his career.
Rookie CB Brian Poole also recorded his first career sack. He has 40 total tackles and six pass deflections on the season. Rookie LB De’Vondre Campbell recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter to close out the game. He has 37 total tackles and five pass deflections on the year.
