MoneyGram ICC Partnership tv commercial "Sender & receiver"

By Hafiz Ibrahim, Passion Pictures.

Cricket is life to many. In fact, it is everything to about 1 billion fans of it world wide. Hence, my approach is to make this spot embody the true nature of MoneyGram's essence "The spirit of going beyond boundaries".

As mentioned in our conversation, I am intending to inject how a fan would anticipate the commercial within the campaign. What I want to inject into the commercial is the reasoning why people who use MoneyGram should go beyond their own means and boundaries to send money back to their loved ones. The way I see it, the act of remitting money can also be an act of sharing the same passion and drive they have irregardless of where they are. Everyone shares that will and desire to go to higher level.

THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME IS ALWAYS ABOUT BIG DREAMS.

So the approach I will take will be a two prong attempt. One, to give reason why their loved ones should experience the same desire they have. This will be portrayed in the "Sender" version. Two, to give the ones back home hope and desire to accomplish their dreams of greatness when money is accepted back home. This will be the "Receiver" option.

My intention is to shoot this spot feeling real (as per the visual reference below) to make this relatable and current. A true to life scenario resonates best for this spot.

THE SENDER

The story starts off at a cricket match on a pitch where a social game is seen happening. We then build up the shots with our shots on the key players.

VO: This is your life

The batsmen on the receiving end, an Sri Lankan player seems ready to receive a fast ball. The Captain, a Indian/Pakistani player on the sidelines holds the thought of believe knowing the team will hit a boundary. A quick cut to the score is seen. A sixer out of the park means they win the game. Tension is on. This match means the world to them for they have never won playing together on foreign soil as immigrants against locals. The other batsmen, a Bangladeshi, is seen signaling the receiving batsmen to hit it out of the park. The Bowler from the opposing team gives that look of anticipation, ready to bowl the final ball in that over.

VO: And this is your game

This then builds up to the next level. The reason why they want to go beyond their boundaries. We then cut over to the expressions on the batsman's face. He takes a deep breath in and flashes of what this really means to them are then shown in flash cuts (as per the video reference). The thought of their families back home flashes. The first Sri Lankan batsman has thoughts of his brother playing cricket in the suburbs without proper cricket gear, unlike him who is fully equipped. The Indian/Pakistani Captain on the sidelines has flashes of his family cheering him on in a game he had in the past and wishes he had them nearby now. The other Bangladeshi batsman has flashes of how triumphant it would be to celebrate a winning moment with the people back home.

VO: It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do

This then boils down to that ball being delivered. It is bowled perfectly but the ball is smashed out of the boundary. The team wins and celebrates! The pitch is invaded.

VO: You know what it takes to win the game

We then see the guys off the field now, all changed and for the first time we see their social backgrounds. The Indian/Pakistani character will be positioned as a graduate student who has just started working as a white collar executive worker a Sri Lankan grey collar work who works in the IT line, and a blue collar Bangladeshi worker in construction. That same winning feeling is then transcended off the field as they do what they know best for their families.

VO: Your sweat and hard work brings you to the moment

The Indian/Pakistani player uses his tablet/computer to send money via MoneyGram online, the Sri Lankan player, seated on his bike at the cricket pitch pulls out his phone and sends money via the app, and the Bangladeshi player who took a bus, alights from it to walk to a MoneyGram outlet to remit money. As they do so, the same spirit can be seen with quick intercuts sending money back home intertwined their winning moment. An explosive edit then culminates all those moments together at a high when the act of remitting money was as great as the act of sending money home for all of them. Their expressions are priceless. Their job done!

VO: When you go beyond boundaries

They now can live for the moment because they have gone the distance being going beyond their boundaries. It ends off with three snippets of the characters savoring the moment of the triumph. This will then connect to the next film when it starts.

VO: For your team you are a game changer

THE RECEIVER

The receiver commercial will be bring closure to the campaign. Following on what occurred in the "Sender" version, we then show the effects of how this spirit is transcended across to the ones receiving.

VO: It doesn’t matter who you are

We start off from where we left off in the "Sender" film.

VO: Or what you do

Hope is then seen on their faces.

VO: You know what it takes to win the game

We show three different families on the other side of the Sub Indian Continent having that feeling where they sense something good is about to happen. Joy and Triumph is on the way. We notice one with a little brother aspiring to play good cricket with a proper cricket equipment as his brother abroad. This will be from the Bangladeshi family which lives in the projects/poor community. One family that wishes to watch the ICC Champions Trophy/World Cup from the Sri Lankan family who lives in the village and One family that wants to be together during this period so they can watch the game together from the Indian/Pakistani family who lives in the suburbs.

VO: Your sweat and hard work brings you to the moment

They are seen in close ups with their emotions hoping for things to change. And so it does. They receive MoneyGram notices that a remittance has been sent. This is when we notice intercuts of the receivers preparing for their big moment after collecting their transfers.

VO: When you go beyond boundaries

One is seen putting on all his new equipment and ready to bat in the streets with the other kids who are in awe, the others are seen preparing their new cable tv and subscription for the ICC Champions Trophy and World Cup, and the other are seen preparing to travel to see their loved ones abroad.

VO: For your team at home you are a game changer

All of these are then intercut with a bang when they all finally get to reach their dreams. The kid with the new bat smashes the ball of a rooftop whilst playing in the streets amongst his friends, people celebrate the game as they watch it on TV and lastly a family is seen together again instead of longing for each other at the cricket stadium.

VO: Taking them beyond boundaries too

Everything comes together when they go beyond their boundaries.

MOOD AND TONE REFERENCE

I intend to keep this as natural and pacy, giving it some rawness to bring the emotions up for the spot to emotional and exciting. My reference will be as per the video I shared during the con call.

Thank you.
