What Kind of Candidates Does USI Look For?
At the University of Southern Indiana, we look for forward-thinking and innovative applicants. While having an above average undergraduate GPA and impressive test scores are a plus for any prospective graduate student, USI is dedicated to accepting individuals from many walks of life who seek to embrace progress.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
A minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA or a 3.0 graduate GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Sufficient test scores if applicable. This may include GRE, GMAT, TOEFL or IELTS.
First, review the minimum admissions requirements for your program of interest. While you're there, view any application documents that will need to be submitted while completing the application. This could include resume/CV, reference letters, personal statement or a written sample.
Second, plan to prepare for and take any required entrance exams. This may include the GRE, GMAT, TOEFL or IELTS exam. To see if your program of interest requires an entrance exam, please visit their website.
All international applicants are required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS exam. Exeptions include:
- applicants whose native language is English
- graduated from an American university in which the language of instruction is English
Third, review your program's application and document deadlines. Materials must be received by Graduate Studies prior to the posted dates. This information can be found on your program of interest's website.

- Submit your official transcripts from all institutions where credit was received

Financing Graduate School

USI typically hires over 40 graduate students as Graduate Assistants throughout the acadmic year. GA positions are incredibly rewarding and highly competitive. If selected as a GA, students receive an hourly wage and tuition and fee waivers during their contract. Additionally, the experience and knowledge gained throughout the assistantship cannot be beat!
