FOOD SAFETY - A QUESTION OF TEAMWORK AND TRUST

A platform for Vietnamese business to successfully contribute to Agenda 2030

Wake up in the morning, people might have different thoughts in mind, but it is believed that most of us share a common question: “What to eat now?”. This question normally is repeated at least 2 more times in a day. The answer is becoming harder to tell when news on unsafe food is spreading everywhere and everyday. How come the basic demand of clean and safe food turns to be so difficult to meet?

Figures from General Statistics Office and a survey by BfK revealed that supermarkets, shopping malls and likewise make up 25% of current Vietnamese retail market share. Up to 2020, the market foresees a leap of that number to 45%, witnessing the presence of 1500 supermarkets and 350 shopping centers approximately. The rest of more than 50% are still in hands of convenient stores, traditional markets and household businesses. This trend strongly boosts the role of retailers in ensuring quality of food from farm to table. It also calls for tighter cooperation among retailers and their supporting agencies such as technology and standard in order to gain consumer’s trust.

Dr. Dinh Thi My Loan

It is our pleasure to organize the Forum in partnership with Association of Vietnam Retailer (AVR), whose Chairwoman Dinh Thi My Loan will connect all the dots by highlighting role of retailers in dealing with food safety issue.

The Forum also welcomes active participation of other partners: VIAEP, QUATEST, VINACERT, An Viet JSC (5K Food), Mua Trading and Service JSC. (Organica), etc. Their stories promise to bring us some light in gloomy food market. Besides, showcase of UNIDO support as international involvement in food safety will be introduced as well.
