Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Professional's Pause

Spring weather is upon us, and I tell you what I'm itching to get outside. Summer is calling my name like a long lost love and this whole snow situation is getting old.

Growing up all my Family vacations were camping related- Redwoods NP, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Mammoth, and Death Valley (a Christmas favorite) were common destinations. ( I grew up in CA, can ya tell?) By the time both my sister and I were Scouting in GSUSA and Venturing, Scout Outings and Family trips were practically interchangeable.

I got to explore a lot of cool places recreating like we did. I picked up Mt. Biking over the summers when I wasn't in the pool- swimming, water polo, and lifeguarding dominated my high school and college free time. And I self-identify as an savvy backpacker, and novice when it comes to climbing, and photography.

As we've been collecting the summer destinations for the Troops in Gateway, I got on a kick of watching adventure and outdoor documentaries- Free Solo, Meru, Dawn Wall, MeatEater, Survivorman, Unbranded... And between the two I've been getting some awful cabin fever.

So like many of you, I'm planning some great outdoor excursions- back to Mammoth CA for my nieces first camping trip, and Grand Teton for my birthday. And if you're in Council this summer, don't be surprised if I swing up and say hi!
