Richard Huish College - Cafe, Dining & Social Space Taunton, somerset

Futures for Somerset worked with Richard Huish College to develop a successful Building Condition Improvement Fund (BCIF) bid to the Education Funding Agency for improved Café, Dining and Social space within the college. The resultant project was a complex demolition of an existing wing and replacement with a new purpose built extension. The new spaces provide a modern and vibrant addition to the college, offering high quality social and independent learning areas.

FfS worked with the Richard Huish College from an early stage to identify this strategically important project, secure funding and subsequently to provide project management, procurement and Employer’s Agent services to deliver the project using a local supply chain. Futures for Somerset appointed Stride Treglown Architect’s to work with them in developing a solution that met and exceeded the College’s expectations within the available funding.

The project cost in the region of £1.4m and was delivered on a tight construction site with a live college campus surrounding it. Futures for Somerset worked in partnership with the college and the main contractor to establish a phasing plan and local arrangements to ensure minimal disruption to the college throughout, delivering a successful project on time, despite a number of site abnormals being discovered!
