Walsall is at the heart of the Back Country, an area that includes Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Dudley and South Staffordshire. Historically, a region known for an industrial heritage based on iron and coal and the manufacturing industries that sprang up during the industrial revolution. The Black Country's name invokes a grim, industrial landscape that has scarred its environment and though it is true that there are many areas of industrial blight, there are other areas of outstanding beauty which are often forgotten or overlooked, save by those who live in close proximity.
This short photo essay is intended to show just small selection of images of the areas close to my home in the hope that people will not only rediscover the beauty on their doorstep but also encourage them to use and record their own impressions of their home town. All the images here have been taken on a smartphone and are therefore in the reach of even the most novice of photographers. All that is required is practice and a passion for the subject.
